Spiritual Naming Ceremony
12.12.02, Guntur Ashram:

On that day Nanna was narrating some extraordinary incidents in his life. All of us surrounded him and were listening to him entranced. Nanna’s face was glowing with the luster of Ras. At the same time his face appeared innocent and delicate like that of a child. All of us saw in Nanna a rare combination of two different feelings. It was surprisingly wonderful! We all were under the spell of that divine attraction and listened to him with rapt attention.

" “During 1945-46, I was working in Araku valley. In those days a middle aged woman by name Vedavati who belonged to a Vaishnava family in Rajahmundry dreamt that she gave birth to a child. I am that child ! The lady doctor attending on her also confirmed that her body had undergone all those changes that would normally occur in a woman after delivery. The couple decided to celebrate the birth of their child with a ‘barasala’ (naming ceremony) function on a grand scale. They invited almost 400 friends and relatives. They engaged cooks and arranged for varieties of savories and food items. None of the guests who attended the function criticized the incident. They accepted it as a natural phenomenon. Vedavati’s daughter said, ‘ I always wished that I had a yogic brother. My desire has been fulfilled in this manner.’ Vedavati’s son who was working as a forest officer also attended the ceremony. Vedavati and her husband made me sit between them and fed me with kheer. I can’t describe how much I wept on the day of Barasala function. My previous life with all bad karmas was shed and Mother granted me a new life. “ "

I asked, ‘Nanna, what does shedding the previous life with all karmas mean? What does getting a new life mean? Please explain in detail'.

" “I told earlier that I am constantly meditating on the all-pervading and formless Mother. It became clear that as a result of this meditation my Karma is gradually being de-linked. According to astrology my life span is 52 years. Now I am 102 years old. Mother proved that my Karma is de-linked by prolonging my life span. She created this miracle (Naming Ceremony) to establish the fact that the Karma of my previous birth was over and I became a small boy, signifying rebirth. These are all links. I am born again. See how Mother has eliminated the effect of Karma. Only after the incredible Barasala incident, I began to experience newer thoughts of serving Mother. “ "

‘Nanna, was it not after the Barasala incident that Mother prolonged your life span by linking it in 1953? Can this be considered as another life?’ I asked

" “Not another birth! Mother showed this Barasala miracle as a preliminary indication of the event to happen in 1953. For any action, Mother plans several years in advance. A woman begins to lactate well in advance during her pregnancy; she does not wait till the child is born. Mother arranges food for the baby even before its birth. That is Mother’s principle. Similarly, she removed my previous karma and granted me a new life. She arranged the Barasala in an unnatural and unusual manner as a prelude to Mother’s prolonging my life span in 1953 in order to organize the human welfare activities planned by Her. In the history of the world, such a miracle never occurred anywhere. That is Mother!” Saying this Nanna was immersed deeply in Radha bhav and became silent. "

As the incredible incidents in his life narrated by Nanna reveal little by little what he is, I started wondering what penance we have performed to obtain the shelter of this Rasikacharya. (Guru of Rasa). On second thoughts, none of us can perform such rigorous penance that would grant us the shelter of Radha sakhi herself! The pure love and mercy shining within him is the only reason for us to have obtained his support and shelter.

Nanna often used to say “Every woman in this world appears to me as a mother.” When he was about 12 years old, he suffered from high fever. The doctors said that the only medicine is the poison of a snake. His relatives arranged for snake poison and administered to him as a dose of medicine. The doctors cautioned that the boy should not be given any diet other than mother’s milk till he regains consciousness. Nanna’s brother requested a few nursing mothers to come home and feed the child. “In this way the Supreme Mother arranged the milk of many mothers for my feed. Therefore all women appear to me only as mothers”, Nanna said recollecting the incident. It is not surprising that Nanna, the Mahatma who views the entire nature as his own mother showers such pure love and benevolence on mankind!!

“Shyama rasdhan prem rasayan Jagat jeev ko ras sanjeevan”

“The wealth of Shyama’s ras is the essence of love. Ras is the ‘sanjeevani’ (life giving) for all human beings. “
