Nanna was giving a talk on Dhyana Yoga. We (I, Sriranga, Rishi garu and a few more) were listening to the talk as we watched the divine tejas of Sri Radhasakhi.
|
"
There are two aspects. There is no 'I' and 'mine'. Same is the case with you too.
"
|
"
Managing Mother's organization is like a crown for me. One part of this organization is propaganda and the other is Dhyana Yoga.
"
|
"
I will tell you about the natural qualities of the human beings who was a part of god at one time. We are all parts of the god that is our true original form. From such a state we have descended to a state where we have no strength or love. We do not know what will happen the next day. We became human beings as minute as an atom. From such a sublime state we stooped down to such an ordinary state. Once we understand the circumstances under which we stooped down we will be careful and avoid such situations. We committed a crime and went to prison. Hence in future we must not repeat the same to avoid prison. This is the first important and most significant point which all of us must certainly note.

"
Coming to your question regarding sadhana....
"
|
Nanna saw a person entering and enquired who he was. Rishigaru replied that he was a regular devotee. During his lecture itself Nanna would look around to see if everyone arrived.
|
"
Vivekananda replied to this query in his lecture in Chicago. This is a very important point. Reading literature is not 'sadhana'. Even listening to the words of wisdom by the mahatmas will not suffice. Going on pilgrimages all over the earth - this is also not 'sadhana'. Then what actually does sadhana mean? I will begin today's talk with this aspect.
"
|
"
Sadhana means 'to attain'! A conflicting tattwa should be thoroughly understood. That conflicting quality should be suppressed and concurred. That is real 'sadhana'! Now what are those conflicting negative powers? We must question ourselves - how can we overcome these forces? Ever since man attained the physical body, some worldly qualities and instincts are inherently present in him. There is practically no human being who does not possess these basic instincts. The body is constituted by the three gunas - sattwa, rajas and tamas. Krishna clearly explained about rajoguna. Rajoguna is not an ordinary one. The Gita says:
"
|
"
'Kama, esha, krodha rajayoga samudh bhavah'
"
|
"
Rajoguna is that quality which is a union of kama (desire) and krodha (anger). A few particles of the rajayoga are present in our body. Hence our body is filled with sattwaguna, tamoguna as well as rajoguna. There is no human being without these. If you have a body invariably you have rajoguna within you. Once you have rajoguna it means you are filled with desire and anger. There is no denial for these. Why are you are advised to take insipid (bland) food. By taking such food, sattwa guna will not grow in you. If you take cows milk, you can control sattwaguna. The cow eats green grass which is bland food. It does not eat meat. Yet a single cow gives birth to 50 calves. How did such desire develop in the cow? The rajoguna which is inherent in its body is the reason for desire leading to procreation. Even the rishis are not free from this rajoguna. Not even Lord Brahma! This point must be clearly understood and remembered. Suppressing all of these gunas is sadhana. Sadhana is nothing else - not books, not dhyana, not anything else.
"
|
"
Rajoguna is an extreme guna. Lord Brahma is the great god who created nature. At that time he was the only one in the entire creation. He began his creation with a girl. The girl was created by combining the divinity in him, his beauty and the divine rasa within him. There was great attraction in her. She was so beautiful that words cannot describe. She stood before him. He saw her grace and eyes. Then he felt why should I hand over such a girl to somebody else? Why should someone else enjoy this pleasure? I should only enjoy because this is my property. He held her hand with desire. She pleaded 'I am your child. You are holding my hand with desire. This is not correct.' Brahma said 'are you so competent that you have criticized me? You will immediately transform into a bamboo heap and live like that.' Immediately she became a bamboo grove. She wept that 'there is no negative aspect in me. Is my beauty my enemy? When he is the creator, how could this happen? This is nothing except karma'. She is a devotee of Krishna. She prayed to Krishna whether this was his dharma and justice. Krishna looked at her with pity and reminded that even sastras say 'karmanam bhogato nasyet'. 'Your karma cannot be shed until you experience it. Even if someone can help you by taking your karma, he can do it to some extent only. Both he as well as you must experience this karma. You too are suffering from such karma of a previous birth. But this is for a short while only. Later I will come to you. I will pluck a small bamboo piece from your bushes. I will use it as my flute. As my flute, you will be continuously drinking the nectar from my lips. I am granting you such fortune. Stop weeping. There is no need for tears.' Then only she wiped her tears.
"
|
In this context, Nanna is talking about the stringent rules of karma philosophy. Whoever it may be he must face his karma. Krishna said 'No one who can remove your karma. Even if you come across someone who can do so, he can take some but you must face the remaining karma'. Karma is so tough. That Nanna, the Radhasakhi the partner in Sri Radha rasa came down to remove the karmas of man and bring about their upliftment. He was very kind to the devotees who sought his shelter with great anxiety. He accepted some of their karmas and thus reduced the intensity of their suffering due to karma. Many of his devotees are witnesses to this fact. Infact I myself am an example to prove this point. Loving Nanna destroyed my bad karma and granted me a new life.
|
Nanna continued to explain the extreme effects of Rajoguna:
|
"
Desire and anger evolved in Brahma due to rajoguna. When desire is not fulfilled man is prone to anger. Both desire and anger are working together. Desire is present in each one of us. Don't ever say that we have no desire. You may feel that 'we pray to some God, we are devotees of some of some guru, we drink only cow milk. Even then how can we possess desire?' This is only false faith. Frankly speaking rajoguna is present even in the cow milk. Even if you drink nectar, there will be rajoguna in that nectar. Hence, the whole creation is full of delusion. We came to such a world.
"
|
"
'Antarvishnum bahirvishnum sarvam vishnumayam jagat'.
"
|
"
There is rajoguna within you and around you. The whole world is full of rajoguna.
"
|
"
'Daivi hyesha guna mayi mama maya duratyaya'.
"
|
"
This maya is divine. It is not an ordinary power.
"
|
"
Krishna said 'this is my 'maya'; my power. Can you fight against my power and win? You cannot'. So there is one enemy within us whom we cannot win over. Within over this enemy is the real sadhana (spiritual practice). Can you win over it? Even Brahma deva could not win over it, then how can you? So which ever sadhana you may follow you cannot win. This is the first principle. Then what can we do? How can we win over the enemy? Birth and death, again and again- is this only our life! Are we only destined to be born countless times! It is true, we can't conquer the enemy!
"
|
"
Krishna says 'mama maya (My maya). There are three gunas (modes) in his maya which he called gunatraya (trio of gunas). Rajoguna is one among the three gunas. Anger and desire are a part of rajoguna. They spread all over us - eyes, nose, face, body. How to conquer this? Eating vegetarian food is also not the solution because it also contains rajoguna. The cow's milk contains rajoguna. The Ganges in Kasi contains rajoguna. Hence it is not possible for us to conquer it. If you look at it from a scientific point of view, it is impossible for you to conquer rajoguna. It is a part and parcel of your body and your mind. It is very difficult. You may say 'my guru said that if I accept mantra rajoguna will leave me.' Where will it go? It cannot go anywhere. He is not a correct guru. He is misleading you. He is contradicting the literature (sastras). We must not preach what is not written in the sastras.
"
|
"
"yat sastrvidhimuthsrujya vartathe kamakarathaha na cha siddhimavapnoti na sukham na pragathi".
"
|
"
He warned us about this. Never say 'What is in the sastras! I will behave as I wish.' That is not right. Respect the sastras; salute the sastras. The sastras are extraordinary mahatmas. They were created by them who are the fragments of God himself. In those sastras he says.
"
|
"
'kama esha krodha esha rajoguna samudhbhavaha'
"
|
"
You cannot conquer; you don't have sakthi. How can you possess the power which even Brahma did not have? When Lord Brahma, the creator had no power, can you and I have that power? So if the guru says you possess such powers, it is false. Don't believe him. It is contradictory to sastra. Sastra is more correct. Sastra is most reliable. So don't set aside sastra.
"
|
"
Dhyana yoga is most important among the extraordinary sadhanas! Krishna advised us to do dhyana. Although he told us the way, it is we who must accomplish and practice dhyana! Krishna preached entire Bhagwad Gita to Arjuna. This is an important sastra. When Arjuna asked him 'should I fight the battle or not?' he did not reply. He said 'I will tell not you what to do. My nature is passiveness. He who is passive will not give guidance. So do not ask me. You must do whatever you feel like. 'yathecchasi tatha kuru'. In this way, Krishna did not give him any advice. Arjuna desired to fight the battle. He lost his only son who faced a miserable death. Battle is death, not life. It's very difficult to face.
"
|
"
The battle within us is fiercer than the Indian war. We must face this battle and win! That is the real sadhana. There is a way to win. I will tell you about it later. First we must clearly understand who our enemies are. In the earlier times, the kings used to make complete enquiry about their enemies - number of enemies and the direction from which they are likely to attack. During the battle in Bobbili (in Andhra Pradesh) the king enquired 'someone is coming to us from Vijayanagar Empire. What is their strength? All the details are recorded; you can refer to those papers.' When he read about their strength, he understood that they are very powerful. Moreover they planned an attack when his commander-in-chief of the army wasn't present. The king's wife heard the conversation. She felt it is better to die rather than face humiliation in the hands of the enemy. She jumped into the fire and burnt herself to death. (This is the true incident which happened during that battle narrated to me when I was inspector of schools in Bobbili.)
"
|
"
Hence, it is important to know the strength of your enemies. First understand your enemy and then only fight the battle. You must assess the strength of the enemy, plan a strategy to face their attack and then only fight. That is the right order, the correct way. So I am now telling you about fight later. The battle is inevitable. We will fight and we will win! The battle is of such nature. So don't worry. However you must know your enemies. You cannot escape. This is very important.
"
|
Ah! What a guru our Nanna is! The word guru is not sufficient to describe him. It is his aim to lead us to that Rasa, which is difficult for even Gods to achieve. First he told us that the sadhana to attain rasa is very difficult. Saying that the battle within us is fiercer than wars waged in India, he said that the battle is inevitable. He gave us an idea to know about the enemies before hand. Having said all this, the infinite, magnificent partner in rasa included himself when he said 'we will fight; we will win'. How to describe such a Nanna? Though the way of sadhana is difficult, though we will encounter enemies known as obstacles, victory will be ours! These words of Nanna are the source of immense strength and confidence!
|
"
This world is a big obstacle. The body is an obstacle. When you think that 'I am this body' it means that you have an attachment for the body. When you love your children who are related to this body, you have a fondness towards the body. The trio of desires (ishanathraya) - dhareshana, dhaneshana, putreshana are all associated with the body. Do you have love towards any of these? Yes! Then you love your body!
"
|
"
Love for this body is a big enemy. It will obstruct you when time comes. As long as you love your body, you will love another body too. The body is not singular. It is infinite. The three desires present in one body are present in the other also. So not only your body, all are alike. That's why it has no beginning or end. We must conquer this. Lord Brahma forgot this. Because his body contained rajoguna, he felt desire. Because there was desire in him, he felt anger. Only because of this desire, he craved for the girl before him, although she was his own daughter.
"
|
"
You love your own son because of desire. It is not worldly desire, it is fondness. Why do you love your wealth or property? Due to desire within you. Why do you crave for wealth? You can't give up your money because of this desire. You must conquer this desire. We have favourable indications that they can be conquered. I also was possessed by these desires at one time. By the grace of the Goddess I was able to give up one by one. I will tell you about this benevolent Goddess also. It is not very difficult to give up these desires. It is not impossible.
"
|
Nanna clearly told us the way of sadhana. He says that he too has these three desires at one time. It is his nature to give us strength and confidence by joining himself with us. It is only because of that he said that he had these three desires. We can understand this by recalling some of the incidents in his pious life. Once he said 'If I wanted to earn money in my job I would have about Rs 50 lakhs now. By Mother's grace, I did not have that nature since childhood.' When Sri Gyanaprasunamba told him that 'you must perform deeksha of total celibacy to see me in my dham', he immediately declared 'Mother, I am a brahmachari from this moment onwards.' Mother Herself is the witness for this vow. When his beloved son aged only six years died, he performed the religious rites personally and proceeded to give a lecture on 'Sthithapragyatwam' (stoicism). Can such a Nanna possess ishnatraya? Only out of his infinite love for us, he came down all his levels (Nanna once said that he is several steps above moksha), mingled among us like an ordinary person saying we all have these desires. Radhe! Nanna's love fills our heart.
|
"
Maharshi Saubhari was very great; infact he is supposed to be greater than Brahma. His powers were almost equal to Vishnu. Such a great Saubhari thought 'my sadhana will not progress smoothly on earth where man lives. This world is trash, every man is filled with desire. I will go into the deep sea for meditation. I will have no enemies there.' He sat at the bottom of the water. When he opened his eyes, he saw a male and female fish in a game of passion. The same situation as on earth exists there also. The male and female fish which also have a body with desire and anger were in union. When the fish united, though they were outside him; though they were only fish; the rajoguna in his mind was ignited. Once lit, the dam burst and he was unable to control himself. His penance ended. He saw King Mandhata with his divine sight and approached him. Saubhari, the 92 year old naked form who possesses extra ordinary powers! He also could not give up rajoguna. As long as the body exists, it will remain. Saubhari is a part of God himself. Even then he asked the King that he wished to marry one of his 50 daughters. He also threatened to curse him if would not agree. The power of his words is mighty as that of God.
"
|
"
The king was grieved and called his minister for advice. The minister suggested that they can arrange the traditional swayamvar where the bride chooses the groom. Saubhari agreed for swayamvar. Then he summoned Manmatha and took his form for half an hour. Old Saubhari disappeared and a divinely handsome man appeared in his place. With the power of his penance, he took 50 forms and enjoyed with each one of them.
"
|
"
After sometime, Maya entered the scene. Maya also creates detachment. His powers got converted to vairagya sakthi - power of detachment. 'Ah my life is destroyed. My powers declined due to these women.' Then he went back for penance. He thought 'What is the essence of this episode? There will be one sentence in sastras that states the law of life. Why did even the sight of fish create desire in me?' He deeply pondered over this, searched thoroughly and finally found the reason stated in religious literature. This is very useful for our sadhana also. So listen carefully.
"
|
"
While creating the world, Brahma created male and female gender. Brahma and Vishnu had their wives. Just as every man has a wife, every male animal has a female mate (wife or not). Even the trees have male and female forms. Some trees have male flowers and some have female flowers. This is mentioned in science. God also made an arrangement for this union.
"
|
"
Saubhari reasoned that in God's creation itself, there is an attraction between man and woman. That's why he succumbed to desire. Some metal also are classified as male and female. The birds and insects are no exception. This phenomenon, which exists in nature, will become a hurdle when we sit for dhyana. Sage Vishwamitra was ascending to higher planes in dhyana. Then he saw a girl, became attracted to her. As long as this thought of physical relationship between man and woman is in your mind, you cannot move higher in dhyana. We fell into this web of man-woman relationship. (Again Nanna included himself with us). Every man wants a woman as his wife. Even if he does not feel so physically, the moment he shuts his eyes; the woman comes in his dhyana. This happened with Vishwamitra. He led a conjugal life with Menaka and also had a daughter, Sakuntala. Such a powerful man came down to such a level. He did not know where to leave her because he was attached to his daughter.
"
|
"
He found one place where animals of opposite nature were living with love and harmony. That was the ashram of Kanva maharshi. The sage had love only for Lord Shiva who was his God. Only by the grace of Shiva, his love became bountiful and boundless. Once love is enhanced, all worldly related negative feelings and thoughts of enemity disappear. His penance was so great. That penance was granted to him by Mother. That's why he could do such penance. In his ashram, a tiger is not a tiger; a calf is not a calf; a snake is not a snake. It is superimposition. Mother is superimposed on every object in the world. So, superimposition also forms a part of our sadhana. That's why I am stressing its importance. All maharshis practiced this. Since Mother is superimposed on everything, the calf is seeing the tiger not as tiger but as Mother. In the same way, the tiger is seeing the calf not as calf but as Mother. The tiger is actually licking the calf. Vishwamitra felt that this was the right place to leave his daughter to grow up. So he left her in that ashram and went back to do penance.
"
|
"
There are many hurdles in this world. I am discussing them one by one. Brahma had one kind of hurdle; Vishwamitra faced another kind of hurdle. Brahma, the creator had a doubt that who was his father. With the urge to see his father, he wandered all over the world. He began to weep when he could not find him anywhere. Then he heard a sound from above 'Tapa Tapa'. What does this mean? How much ever you may wander in the external world, how many pilgrimages you may go; how many mahatmas you may meet; you cannot lose your maya! In order to shed maya, you need something in addition to human efforts. That is 'tapa' (penance). This was reminded to Brahma by the words 'Tapa Tapa', inspiring him that, as a creator, he must remind everybody about this. You must put in human efforts but that is not enough. Along with your efforts, you also must do some penance. After all what is human life? It is present this moment and perishes the next. So you must gain that divine power. Brahma did penance and attained that power!
"
|
"
At one time, Zakir Hussain was the President of India. Doctors and body guards are always present in his house. One morning his daughter brought him a cup of tea. Even before he could hold the tea cup, he fell down and died. Zakir Hussain, the President of India died because his time was over. He could not drink the tea which was within his reach. Neither doctors nor military personnel could make him drink it. That is the secret of the world. Though something is very near, you cannot enjoy it. It is not possible. Some divine power works in the form of karma or something else. You must submit to that power. All the worldly power that you possess cannot help you. No one could help the President. What does this mean? There is a powerful force beyond us. When we pray we certainly need the help of some force. Without that, we cannot move ahead.
"
|
"
Sage Vishmamitra approached King Dasaratha. The king welcomed the sage and asked what he wanted. When the sage asked the king to send his sons Rama and Lakshmana along with him, he became upset. 'They are young princes. How can they help you? How can they face the strong demons who come near you? They were born after so many prayers. I cannot live without them. How can I send them with you?' Vishwamitra got angry.' They have not come to this world for your sake. They are the great personalities who came here for the welfare of mankind. You are not aware of this. You are ignorant. I came here only for the welfare of mankind, not for myself. You have only a minute to decide.' The king was terrified and agreed to send them.
"
|
"
The parents were weeping as Rama and Lakshmana left as they were not sure if they would see them again. Yet they were powerless to speak aloud. Vishwamitra explained 'My sons, whatever philosophical words anybody may say, man will not be able to move higher unless he has the divine power. Without that power, sadhana cannot continue. The enemies will attack anytime; demonic powers will attack you. You need some power to conquer them. That is why I brought you here. You are the divine personalities who came to earth for the welfare of mankind. You must first gain powers. Then only you must set out to conquer. When they were ready, he gave them one mantra each - 'Athibala' to Rama and 'bala' to Lakshmana. Then Lakshmana expressed a doubt. 'You have given us your powers. When you possessed these powers, could you not deafest them yourself'? Rama was smiling, waiting to hear his reply. 'Sakthi can be transferred from one person to another. It is transferable. I am transferring my power to you. Accept it. I have become old; you are young. I distributed my power to both of you. Mankind should benefit by both of you. That is why I transferred my power.'
"
|
"
Sakthi is essential. This is the first and foremost lesson in Ramayana. Without powers, man cannot do anything. Though you chant mantra or do penance, you still need that power. Rama and Lakshmana gained that power and further enhanced it through penance. You must adopt the method which I tell you to enhance the power. You must observe carefully and exponentially multiply the power. It can increase to any volume. With that power, you must fight your battle. You cannot do japa. The demonic forces of anger and desire will enter you at some time or other and you will succumb to them. You will feel sensual desires and anger surface within you. Otherwise people who ignite your anger and desire will approach you. Once they meet you or touch you, anger and desire will strike you and your power will be lost. That's it! This is precisely what Vivekananda said. 'What is true sadhana? There are some evil forces of anger and desire within you. They are hindering you in dhyana. You are likely to give in to them. So be careful. This is my message to the world'. That is sadhana, meaning 'to achieve'. You must achieve victory. When the evil forces raise their ugly heads during dhyana, you must suppress them. I am giving you the power to suppress those evil forces.
"
|
"
Rama and Lakshmana have shown this truth to the world. Vivekananda clearly mentioned that though you may progress outwardly, you will still need penance. That is the law of this world. You cannot move forward without that power. Your body is your greatest hurdle. This cannot be overcome only by food habits. The desire within you can be overcome only by God's grace. When desire is present in every atom of the body, how many atoms can you remove? It is not possible. So there is a power that can remove the desire in your heart. There is evidence about this in Vedas also. You must attain a little of that power which can swallow all your desires and anger in a fraction of a second irrespective of all forces in the universe. Such is its power! You must seek that power. The rishis who were endowed with the wealth of penance also prayed for this power.
"
|
Referring the question asked by Lakshmana and Vishwamitra's reply, Nanna hinted that he came here to hand over Sri Radha rasa tattwa and would soon return back to Rasa dham. It is the responsibility of his disciples to propagate the rasa tattwa handed over by him. He said 'I am giving you the necessary power as it is transferable.' 'I will record the method I am about to preach.' Where will he record? In our hearts! He said that we must suppress the demonic forces when they obstruct us during dhyana. He directly said 'I will give you the necessary power to suppress them. There is a power that will swallow your desires and anger in a moment. You must seek this power. That is the secret.' We sought shelter at the feet of Sri Radhasakhi, the Rasaguru, our Nanna. The rasaguru has benevolently given us the power to fight the battle within us. He is holding our hand and guiding us towards rasa. 'You must seek the 'Hladini sakthi' which can destroy all the evil forces in the world that can obstruct our way.' Nanna also added 'You must seek that also. This is the secret.' It seems that the meaning of these words is very deep. Nanna often said that in the path of worshipping Sri Radharasa, we cannot move forward unless we have sakhi bhava and seek shelter at the feet of the sakhi. Nanna is the confidential sakhi of Radhaji. Nanna is implying that along with Hladini sakthi, we must also seek the shelter of the holy feet of the sakhi. Radha tattwa - Sri Radhasakhi, tatsiddhi- Sri Radha. They are inseparable, identical entities.
|
Nanna continued:
|
"
You are praying to Gayatri. You accepted the mantra. Gayatri is a power. Unless a Brahmin obtains the grace of Gayatri he cannot be a Brahmin. In olden days the Brahmins used to compulsorily initiate a boy at the age of 5! When he chants the mantra, he will gain power as he grows up. The Brahmin boy who cursed Parikshit was just 12 years old. He was initiated at a tender age of 5 years. By the time he was 13 years old, his practice fructified. He attained siddhi. Gayatri devi appeared before him in the form of sakthi. She asked what he wanted. He said 'I don't want anything. Please stay within me. Please drive away the enemies within me.' She agreed.
"
|
"
When king Parikshit insulted his father, the boy cursed him that 'he should die due to a snake bite.' It happened exactly that way. Even Krishna could not stop this. So sakthi is very essential.
"
|
"
In this way, there will be so many obstacles. You must not surrender to them. Now let us come to the real story. So far I have given the introduction to dhyana yoga. Now I will teach you the sequence of dhyana yoga. What I am telling you is the most scientific and most sastric. Not only scientific and sastric but I speak from my experience. I experienced each and everything. I will tell you only that. I never preach what I didn't experience. I never say what isn't in the sastras. Everything I say is sastric, scientific and with experience. Now let us come to the main points.
"
|
"
Let us recall the introduction to dhyana yoga.
"
|
"
1) Every atom of the body is filled with rajoguna. Anger and desire arise from rajoguna. Hence this body, love for the body is a great enemy of the devotee in sadhana.
"
|
"
2) In the creation itself, there is an attraction between man and woman. This attraction makes him succumb to maya.
"
|
"
3) Maya of the three gunas makes him succumb to the world.
"
|
"
In order to move forward in dhyana by overcoming the above obstacles:
"
|
"
1) You must understand you enemies and then fight the battle! You must attain the power required to fight the battle through penance.
"
|
"
2) In order to conquer the attraction between man and woman present in the world, you must seek the powerful Hladini sakthi of Mother.
"
|
"
3) By dhyana on the Supreme Goddess who is imposed everywhere, you must destroy the three gunas.
"
|
"
If we continue sadhana in this way, the ever pleased Sri Radha Devi will make the dhyana sweeter and give Her support.
"
|
Now Nanna is coming to the main point.
|
"
We are all fragments of Lord Krishna. I will start from that point onwards. 'Mamaivamso jeeva loke jeeva bhoota sanatanaha'. The sakthi is prevailing since ages. We who are parts of gods are also present since the beginning. We were present even before this creation. What we call birthday isn't the actual one. The birth of this body isn't significant. Much before this sometime unknown to anybody we were born, that is the birthday. God has given us such powers. We are filled with this power. What is the quality of this divine power? Even one spark of fire can ignite just like entire flame. Flames have the power of burning. Every spark of that flame has that power. Every sub atomic particle from the sea has the same quality. In the same way, since we descended from god, we attained the power within us from god. We do have some divine powers. How do you know that you have the divine power? The sastras vouch for this. We will take a few examples. Its God's power; God's divine power. This is only a small fraction of God's power. Its greatness can be understood from one or two leelas, those which have sastric evidence. Then we can understand that we had such powers too. But we descended from that state. That is another point.
"

"
Bharata went to the jungle to call his brother, Rama back and crown him as the king. He came along with 50,000 people. His 3 mothers accompanied him. Vasisthta maharshi came along with him thinking that 'Lord Rama is the greatest the world. I shall have his darshan and request him to come back to the kingdom.' They all reached the ashram of Sage Bharadwaja. He is a very great sage. He had only two disciples, unlike 60 or 300 in the present day. Two are enough. Bharata came for the blessings of the maharshi. He invited all of them to stay for the night and have dinner. Bharata was surprised 'when my brother came, they were only three of them. Now we are 50000 people, horses and elephants. There are only two disciples in the ashram. I can't see any cooks here? He expressed this feeling to the disciple. He said 'I wonder whether you are really Sri Rama's brother. What do you think of maharshi's power? They are parts of god. Do you doubt their power?' By 8.30 p.m. they served dinner to 50000 people. Invisible hands were serving food. Some invisible fragrance permeated the place. 50000 people were fed with unique savouries. All items were served hot. No stove or cooks were visible! That is their power! 'Mamaivamse.....'

At one time our power was also so strong. Valmiki's Ramayana is reminding us of this fact. In the morning, Bharata met the maharshi and told him about his intention to invite Rama back. The maharshi said 'Rama will not return now. He has a divine assignment ahead of him. He cannot give up that activity and come back only for you the pleasure of some. Don't be sad. You all must worship him. Return back to your kingdom.' The maharshi was even able to inform about the movement of god! That is the power he had!

Though many people requested him, Rama did not agree to go back. He said 'I have a different mission to accomplish. I cannot return back now. Bharatha take my foot wear with you.' Bharata took the slippers and reverentially considered them as Sri Rama. Rama said 'Put these sandals on the throne. Whenever you get any doubt, you will get a reply from these sandals.' Now is Rama a human being or God? This is one proof to say that he is God. Because the inanimate wooden sandals are actually active! They are the personification of Sri Rama himself. The sandals are speaking just as Rama would, had he been present. In one sense, the sandals became Rama in the active form. Externally they appear as wooden article, but they are certainly active!

That is the greatness of Valmiki's Ramayana. Rama is depicted in two forms. He is saluting them. Now how could the maharshi arrange food for thousands of people within 2 minutes? Neither Dasaratha nor Rama was aware of such sweets. Hot sweets were served to 50000 people; a huge stream was arranged for the elephants; food was served to the horses. How? There were no cooks; no utensils; no provisions; not even fire! That was the situation there. 'Mamaivamso jeevaloke...' We are all such fragments of god! We also possessed such power at one time. In some birth, maya struck and we became helpless and powerless. Now our state is purchasing provisions from the market, cooking and eating.

"
We must regain those powers once again. We don't need power; we must gain that position. We must gain spiritual purity. We must attain a spiritual form. That is the main purpose of this dhyana!

After Rama we can cite Parasurama. All the kshatriyas joined together to destroy the Brahmin community. Parasurama decided to destroy the kshatriyas who killed his father. He thought 'Rama and Krishna need an army. I don't need anyone. I am a single man army.' Without any army, he alone killed lakhs of kshtriyas. Till this day, any massacre is called 'Parasurama preethi' meaning burnt to ashes. The human being possessed so much of power!

Nanna, whenever you mention about man losing his power and becoming an ordinary human being, you include yourself with us saying 'We all had such power at one time. We have become helpless now.' Why do you do so? Having infinite divine power, uplifting the human beings, you, the dear sakhi of Sri Radha are our guru, our god, our dearest sakhi. Not only someone saying that you are an ordinary person; even if you say so, it is unbearable for us. Nanna even by virtue of your inherent quality of not hurting us, pleased do not include yourself with us!

Sakhi is sadhana; sakhi is siddhi. Sakhi grants the thought of Shyama rasa. Sakhi is constantly in a state of Mahabhava. Sakhi can be seen only with Mahabhava.
