SRI RADHA'S POWER OF RASA

Radha Krishna temple, Secunderabad.

Nanna began his divine speech in the evening.

" Putana had both eligibility and qualifications. Though she was a demon externally, thousands of years back, she was filled with immense love for half an hour. That tender, affectionate love towards God is enough. The Bhagawata also states that one need not do penance for millions of years. Just one minute is enough! Five minutes when you forget the body, world, shame - everything! 'Mere to Giridhar Gopal doosra na koyi - Meera Bai sang Gopal. He was just six years old when he lifted the Govardhan hill on his finger tip. Meera; the princess heard about his beauty and loved him. 'I want only the six year old boy, not older or younger.' That is why she yearned only for Giridhar Gopala (Gopala who lifted the hill). God strangely inspires love in a boy aged 3 years and also in a man breathing his last! The owner of a fruit garden will wait till the fruits ripen before he plucks them. That is the right time! We all are devotees of God. There is no animate object in the world which is not a devotee. Even a tiger has devotion but it did not ripen. God waits till the devotion deepens and when it fructifies, he pulls the living being towards him. How strange are the ways of the Divine! "

" In the case of Putana, Krishna thought 'this object belongs to me. She cried for me at one time. The time has come to uplift this living being. This is my duty.' The Lord has two aspects of majesty and sweetness. The leela Purushottama has no rigid rules, only love and sweetness. A judge is strict as long as he is in the court. Once he reaches home and changes his uniform, he becomes a different man. He relaxes in the presence of his family. One wonders whether he is the same person who pronounced a death sentence an hour ago.' "

" In the aiswarya kala, he must perform his duty as per rules. In madhurya kala, there are no rules, only love. You would not believe that Krishna was slapped playfully during pranks so many times. Oh! The Lord with myriad of forms being slapped and beaten? The truth is that he wants that only. This can be understood only by the rasika who experienced the sweetness. The Upanishad says 'Rasovaisah'. There is no rasika greater than Krishna in the entire world. Yet he also has the aspect of control. He is stern and strong, without any mercy. He is a stern ruler as well as highest rasika. Really strange because they are two conflicting aspects. The same thing two aspects. Though many people tend to follow rules, there are no rules in this path. "

" Shakespeare developed this point elaborately in one of his dramas. He depicted a wealthy man who has servants of two kinds. One of them is highly learned and follows rules strictly. If he does not do his work correctly, he is suspended. The other servant is intimate with the master, gently chiding him for returning late from work. That is how rasika is. "

" This is exactly how Krishna thought about Putana. He recalled his incarnation as Vamana who asked Emperor Bali for place for three footsteps. 'When I came near Emperor Bali, you were filled with maternal love and were burning in the fire of yearning for me as your son. I am indebted to you. It is my duty to repay that debt now.' Krishna rewarded her for the yearning she felt millions of years ago. He placed his hands on her breast and granted her the vision of her previous life. Then she wept for him. 'My little Krishna, you came to me after such a long time. You fulfilled my wish. I will die now with this happiness. I do not want to go back. Please take me near you.' She gave up her life right there! "

" Sage Vyasa's son, Srisuka declared that he does not want the world and lived in a hermitage with total detachment when he was just 16 years old! His father went for his son, unable to bear the pain of separation from him. He told his disciples to read out the verses from the Bhagawata without disturbing Srisuka. He would listen from a disturbance. If any verse touches his heart, it would melt and he would come near his father. Srisuka was moved by the Putana's episode, whereby the Lord grants his love to her. This leela touched him and he quickly came out of this hermitage. 'Who are you?' 'We are Vyasa's disciples.' 'Which book are you reading out?' 'Srimad Bhagwata' 'How big is it?' 'Very big. It contains 18000 verses!' 'Who wrote it?' 'Sage Vyasa.' 'Oh! Vyasa is my father. He has written this book! Please read out the verse about Putana once again.' He fell while listening to the verse. Ah! Such rasika love. God's love never fades. Yearn for him for 5 minutes, he will give you everything. 'Bhaktire-vainam gamayathi bahktire-vainam darsayathi, Bhaktivasaho purushah' - God surrenders to devotion nothing else.' "

" Just imagine that Yashoda could screw the ears of the little boy chiding him for eating mud. Where is the Lord, who is the Ruler of the whole Universe and where is the ordinary human being his mother. 'Mother, forgive me. I did not eat mud.' Open your mouth. The Lord of the worlds, one who uplifts one and all stood still before a woman fearing that she would slap him for his pranks. When she tied him up with a rope, he simply stood there weeping. The Gopikas came to defend him. 'Mother Yashoda. Why did you tie up out little Krishna. We promise that your son did not eat cream in our houses. He is providing to everyone. He is playing this trick because we are poor and he could help us. This is not his mistake. Okay, even if he eats in our house it is because we are feeding him. Don't beat him. That is divine love! We cannot even temp; you are drowned in his love even before you realize it. This is one kind of devotion. "

" In the Rasa played in Brindavan, the leelas of little Krishna are enacted. All the actors are aged 9-10 years. They act so naturally that thousands of viewers begin to weep. That is his leela! They show love for the son, aspect of rasa and depict it as the power of Krishna - aspect of majesty. What is this aspect? What is this power who is She? She is Rasamayi, the sweetest of sweet ones. She is Radha, the Raseswari of one who is highest in rasa. Brindavan contains many books on Bhagawata. All six rasas - peace, servility, friendship, affection, sweetness, are found in Brindavan. Radha is the Sovereign of Rasadham hence Raseswari. She is Hladini Shakthi, the power of ecstasy. Chaitanya would just think of this power and soon in ecstasy. In Brindavan anyone who yearns for Mother will soon like that. Nobody can question this. One glance of Hers is enough. The tigers and lions danced when Chaitanya yearned for the Lord, wept and danced in the temple. All the animals joined him and danced on two feet. "

" Man committed one sin. Be it a sage, preacher or emperor, every human being commits a sin but is not even aware of it. The Vedas and Bhagwata mention that we may find one in a million who do not commit this sin. You will be surprised to know what that sin is. You forgot who you are. You are accepting a form that is not you. These together form a sin and you are facing punishment for this. "

" You are accepting as yourself what you are really not. Then who are you? The scriptures mention that God asked us two questions -who are you? Why are you suffering? Why are you weeping that you fell in this world of Maya? One who answers these questions through living in a fair, direct and truthful way need not come back to this world. He passed the exam. "

" The answers to these questions are in the scriptures. First answer, I am the eternal servant of God, the supreme Bhagawan. Chaitanya Prabhu repeated this point three times cautioning us not to forget it. Second answer, I forgot that I am his servant. That is why I am suffering in this world. Suppose you forget that you are only an employee in the bank and construct a house with the money from the bank, you will be thrown in jail. You are a servant, not a master. Don't ever think of yourself as a master. How did we become like a servant? You may wonder that how can one who does not do any job and sitting idle be a servant. You will be punished only if you are a servant and commit a mistake. You may want to close the doors and comfortably relax without being anybody's servant. Still you are a servant only. How? God created so many sense organs inside your body. You are deceived and not even aware of it. "

" Your friend tells you that it would be very relaxing if you have a drink after a tiring visit to a hill. He tempts you saying that it would be intoxicating and you will be fresh. You are convinced and agree to drink. Now let us analyze what happened. He wanted to drink because he is tired and uncomfortable: he did not trouble anybody. The Vedas say that it is not you who wanted to drink. There is another power within you which provokes you to drink. So, that is not the real you. These sense organs work from within you. They are compared with a peculiar chariot run by five horses. All the horses must be tied with a chord. The mind is like the chord binding the five sense organs. The driver who holds the reins of the horses to drive the chariot is the mind with intellect. We must understand this corollary in two ways. You are desiring something, as a result you are descending down. Why do you desire? It is not you who wants something, the sense organs want it. Our mind always want something like the waves in the ocean - don't, yes, no.. if you remain passive like the bird watching from above and not the bird flying below, without desiring anything, you will not have any karma. Otherwise, every desire is a big karma. You must face punishment for each karma, so another life. This is a fact. You cannot simply say that I don't want anything. "

" Lord Rama's father made all arrangements for his sons coronation ceremony. All the kings assembled there, eatables and sweets were ready. The king had only one intense desire - my son will became a great king after his coronation. I must witness the ceremony when the crown is placed on his head. Suddenly he received a message from Kaikeyi. 'Why did you call me? Why are you not present in the palace which is overflowing with people. The atmosphere is festive. You are my favorite wife. You must be by my side during this ceremony. Why are you sulking?' Kaikeyi reminded Dasaratha about two boons promised by him. 'At the time of our marriage, my father insisted that you must take me along with you for every war because I was brought up like a warrior son. When I saved your life during one war you promised to fulfill two wishes unconditionally. I did not ask anything till now. The time has come to ask for the boons. I wish to become the king's mother. Hence, the coronation should be done for my son Bharata and not Rama. Moreover, Rama must leave the palace and live in exile for 14 years in the forest.' Dasaradha's heart was broken. 'How can I send my son to the forest? How can I lie without him? He was brought up in luxury and never slept on the floor till now. How can he live in the forest?' the king collapsed. "

" Dasaradha could not bear when he heard that someone other than his dear son Rama should be the king. The question is who had the desire that 'I want a son. My son should be a King.' If we can say who actually wished for them, we are deemed to pass all philosophical exams on this earth. So who wishes for something? I. Who is I? Who are you? Suppose you say 'I am this body' you are shedding this body when you die. Often we see the person's body lying right before our eyes but we say he is dead. Why does a man cry for his son when his body is still here. If he is crying for his son then whose dead body is this? That means his son is not in this body. The Bhagawata narrates an incident when Narada tells a person weeping for his dead son 'tell me how your son looks like. I will bring him to you.' 'I have seen him only in his physical form, I have never seen who is inside his body. So, how can I recognize him?' 'That means you have not seen your son in his real form.' 'I did not.' 'The body lying here is not your son. You never saw the consciousness that left this body. Then why are you weeping?' He was enlightened. Dasaradha made the mistake of thinking of Rama in the physical form as his son. Rama is not his son at all. He is not related in anyway. He came to earth for a specific divine purpose. He was a God send to the king. When Kausalya ate the divine porridge offered by the fire God, Rama was born. So the fact is that, Dasaradha did not have any relation with Rama. He came at his own will. Ayodhya is a small kingdom compared to the world. Did the ruler of the universe come to earth to become the king of Ayodhya? Certainly not. Then why did Dasaradha cry for him? He was weeping for something that did not belong to him. That is a sin. When Rama brought Sita back from Ravana, everybody in Ayodhya commented about it 'Rama is so naïve. Sita stayed in Ravana's house for one year. He is known for his wicked ways. Who will believe that she is chaste even after one year of stay in his house. Rama is so guile that he brought Sita back with him.' He never told Sita that a washer man in the kingdom spoke like this. If he said 'people in the kingdom are speaking like this you must protect the kingdoms respect. I am sending you away. Please do not mind.' She would not think anything. But he did not do like that. 'Lakshmana, take Sita into the forest and leave her there. Don't tell her why you are leaving her. She will ask you what mistake she did. Don't tell her anything.' Everybody were aghast. The kings duty is to tell her why she is punished. The innocent lady never even knew where and why she is being taken. "

" Therefore, you must realize that nothing in the world belongs to you. You are not linked with anything. Unless we imbibe from Ramayana and Mahabharata, we do not have peace. You must realize that it is not you but the sense organs that perform any act. You are passive like the bird watching from the top. The animate birds below are human beings who are attached with the body and think they are the body. When you are not the body at all how can the body's name be your name? Everybody commits this blunder. You have the illusion that you are the body. The punishment for this sin is your living in the world. God brings you to the world with the five elements and sense organs. "

" We must forget this body. The scriptures say 'you are not this body; don't become attached to it; don't identify yourself with it.' But man can't change so easily. When you ask any scholar or yogi how to overcome this problem, he tells you to practice and feel that you are not the body. Is that enough? Will the feeling go away? Will you feel satisfied when you think that you are not the body? He may say that you will feel better when you believe that your dead son is still alive. Who will listen to him? Is it possible to practice that? So, people put it aside as mere philosophy. "

" Why do people have so much attachment for the body? You want to adorn the body with good clothes and jewellery. You want to buy things for your kith and kin for their body. You love the body more than anything else on earth. This is a big sin. That is what everybody does and why they are here. Otherwise everybody would be in the higher worlds. "

" You may wonder that he sings divine so well, then why didn't he go to the higher world. Well, he may have a good voice, he may learn music, he may sing with full energy but is it enough? Does his ignorance fade away? The complicated knot must be unwound. You must lose consciousness that you are the body. When king Pareekshit came to know that he would die in seven days, he panicked and wept. He invited all the religious scholars in his kingdom and asked them to show him the right path to follow in the last few days of his life. We also are like him. We fear to die. We are ready to sacrifice all our wealth for our life because we are attached to the body. "

" Now, we shall see the logic. This is Krishna's essence. Man and even a dog loves his body very much. In my childhood I disturbed a sleeping kitten. Suddenly his mother came from somewhere and bit me. That is the love the cat had for her kitten. Daily I leave some rice grains in the corner when I eat food. A sparrow comes without fail to take the grains. We saw that the sparrow was taking food for her little ones. She never ate the grains herself, she only fed them. Ah, such affection. This shows that even birds have so much love and affection for their children and their body. This is a visible fact. We don't need books and philosophy to convince us. "

" There is such affection within human beings also. There is not a single living being who does not know to love. How do we show this love? Some love their body, some love the children born to this body, some love parents who gave birth to this body etc. We are wasting our love. The mahatmas in Brindavan say that this love is not yours, it belongs to God. An immense power, Hladini Shakti, the manifestation of love is filled in all living beings. God is everywhere, within each and everyone. This power spreads love in many ways - for the body, wife, children, senses etc. You want to do something for your family. You give them wealth and prosperity. The affection keeps on increasing. This is love indeed. But we are destroying divine love to distribute it in so many channels. That is a sin. You must return this body back from where it came. You must send this love from where it came - Krishna or the Sovereign of rasa, this is our duty. This cannot be taught in an hour in a university by charging a fee. Then what is the way out? "

" Listen attentively. Suppose a river is flowing downwards. By diverting its flow and streamlining the water to the fields, you can get good cultivation. Otherwise, all the water will go into the sea. We also are leaving divine love which we obtained from God to prakrithi, our family. We must construct a dam and reverse the flow. We must obstruct the flow such that it will go back. If you throw a ball down where would it go if there is no earth? It would move on and on till it reaches an obstruction. Since the earth stops the ball, it need not make any effort or wish to be stopped. It will bounce back without fail. We also must stop the divine love within us from flowing out. We must slowly curtail the love going out in all directions. When you put in some effort, God will shower his grace and take you upwards. When you begin your efforts, he will stop the outflow of love and pull you back. You will be blessed. The effort to stop the outward flow of love is Satsang. "

" Satsang is the small beginning. Often we find that the vehicles do not start easily in winter. When people push it from behind the engine is heated and the vehicle moves forward. You must put in an effort of pushing the vehicle, the engine will take care of the rest. Understand this secret and apply it in your life. This is what happens in the kingdom of love. How do we begin? What should we do? A small motor runs a big vehicle. The motor is more important than the big truck because it has energy. What is Krishna's power? Radha! Krishna's shakthi is Radha. This has been experienced by many people. We must please that power a little. How can we please Her so that the power will favor us shower grace on us? Chaintanya gave correct and beautiful answer to this question. The goswamis are unable to explain these teachings correctly and hence failed. I read several books but could not find the right interpretation in most of them. Very few of goswamis could understand the secret. Jeeva goswamis, one of the six goswamis who were Chaitanya's disciples had a sharp mind and intellect. He tried to understand about Krishna's power. He read the scriptures and searched for Krishna's interpretation. "

" The 'Narada Pancharatnam' is the book which Krishna narrated the glory of divine leelas to Narada. 'I will tell you the secret of my power and how man can reach the higher world.' He also made a promise that what he said is the absolute truth. "

Satyam satyam punah satyam; Satyameva punah punah

" Repeating thrice means a vow. "

" 'My Lord, please tell me that truth.' "

Radha namna vina loke mat prasado na vidyathe

" Chaitanya and his disciple Jeeva Goswami told not to worship Krishna alone. A costly car without any engine has no value. Hindu religion insists on worshiping Shakthi, the goddess of power. This is also Ramakrishna's message to the world. Shiva is Shiva only when he is accompanying by Shakthi, otherwise, he is seva (dead body). There is so much difference with and without Shakthi. Krishna said 'Radha is my Shakthi'. Love Shakthi is different from other Shakthi's. The power of Lakshmi and Durga is worldly related power. The power of love is related to the inner chambers of the Lord. Hence, it must be understood very carefully. The regular guards are not permitted into the inner chambers of the king and queen even if they wish to protect them. The servants in this private chamber are known as sakhis. They accompany the queen everywhere all the time. Some of the kings are my friends. When I asked them about this, they laughed and said that there is nothing wrong in a sakhi being so near to the queen. They are confidential sakhis. They do not come out and mix with other servants who work in outer chambers. The six goswamis are believed to be sakhis who live in such privacy. The sakhis know all the innermost confidential secrets. When Radhaji addressed Rupa Goswami as sakhi, he responded to Her call. Ragunatha Goswami was also a great sakhi. "

" Chaitnaya asked Jeeva Goswami to meet him in Kasi at midnight to tell him a secret. He explained some secrets to him that without power of the motor, nobody can drive a car. The confidential sakhis live in the kingdom of love. The powers of that kingdom are different from the powers gained by waging a war. The warriors have a strong physique with weapons in their hands whereas, sakhis hold flowers in their hand and sing and dance in the queens glory. "

" In one verse, Jeeva Goswami revealed this secret to the world. "

" Ah! I want Krishna. Krishna is not near me. How will the body work without dynamo. I know the secret of the dynamo. Chaitanya revealed the secret to us, one who does three things can be blessed with the grace of the sakhi. The supreme Sovereign is the power of rasa, the power of love. We are talking about the kingdom of love. Formal rituals, sitting postures, dressing etc are rules for yogis, not for us. These do not exists in love's kingdom "

The cassette ended though Nanna's speech continued

The living being is God's constant servant. Nanna explained how man forgot this fundamental truth and got entangled in the family world due to attachment for the body. Even king Dasaradha fell due to desire. The bird on the tree is passive while the other bird comes down and enjoys the taste of fruits. Referring to this point in the Taittiriyopanishad, Nanna taught that Jeeva should be passive towards the world like the bird on the tree. The love within us takes many paths and flows out. If we out in some effort and divert the flow towards God, the benevolent Mother will hold out Her hand and pull us up. Worshiping Radharani, Krishna's power and being blessed is man's duty. Sri Radha is the supreme Sovereign of the world of love. The only way for man is to worship Sri Radha's divine feet, seek shelter in Brindavan where Mother resides and associate with rasika mahatmas filled with Radha bhave. This is the essence of Nanna's divine speech.

You are entangled in the wheel of karma due to maya - due to your desires and attachment to the world. By practicing premayoga and by the grace of Mother, traces of karma, seed of desire and remnants of ignorance will be destroyed. This is indeed true.
