SILENCE IS PENANCE

" During 1980-81, Anjani Amma and I were translating the Hindi commentary of Bhagawata written by Sri Dongre Maharaj. We used to wake up at 3 am every morning and do the translation. One day I went to sleep while writing. In the early hours we heard a voice 'It is 3 am, wake up.' Mother came and personally woke us. She too joined us in our endeavor and supported us. In this way, Mother enters into our daily lives. She too stays along with us. "

Nanna said in one of his speeches.

If you practice dhyana wholeheartedly, She will certainly come. On September 6, 2000, Mother miraculously called the lady who sweeps the temple in Pandaripuram. On one Radhashtami festival, in the early hours of morning, a small girl appeared in the dream of the deaf lady and said, 'It is time for Mother's Seva. Why are you not awake yet?' The lady came to the temple immediately and narrated the incident to the devotees present there. Seeing all the God's photos, she pointed out to Radhaji's photo and emotionally said that this little girl woke her up. Such grace is the natural quality of the loving Mother who is always bestowing Her blessings!

1999, February: One day, Nanna was immersed in dhyana in Guntur Ashram. At the time of Brahama Muhurta (early hours), Sri Kishori appeared before him glowing in light pink colour and instructed him to give lectures on Dhyana Yoga for a few days. That day a group of devotees from Pandaripuram requested Nanna to come to their ashram and speak about Radhaji. Gangadhara Sarma garu requesting Nanna on the same day that Radhaji instructed him to speak about Dhyana Yoga is nothing but Mother's will! Realising that this occured only by Her will, Nanna spoke on 'Dhyana Yoga - Radha tattva' in a state of incessant dhyana on 10 days for about 3 hours each day. Ganadhar Sarma garu and the other devotees absorbed what he explained in those 10 days about how to perform dhyana Yoga and practiced dhyana yoga in Pandaripuram temple for 40 days. By Nanna's grace, they had many divine experiences. He was very fond of those devotees of Pandaripuram who were following the path of dhyana yoga, which he preached. The devotees are so fortunate that on 7.2.2003 Nanna personally installed the idol of Sri Radha in Pandaripuram temple.

Nanna said that during those 10 days when he spoke about Dhyana Yoga, a Goddess 'Mahavani' was always near him. So many Gods prayed to Radhasakhi in so many ways.

" Rasika Mahatmas do not think of name and form. The rasa of God's love is their God of worship. Their spiritual practice is giving up ego and attachments and holding rasa tattva. One who attains knowledge of tattva is a scholar; one who experiences Rasa tattva is a Rasika. Sri Radha is the manifested form of rasa. Radha is the master key of Krishna. She is a small girl but most powerful throughout 14 worlds. She is the Supreme power. She is all-pervading. We must meditate on such a Mother. How to meditate on Her, who is all pervading and Formless? "

" The devotee should live in the awareness of the all-pervading Sri Radha bhava constantly. The devotee should always be in the bhava that 'my Mother is with me observing every thought and word of mine. Let me not forget to be aware of Her even for a moment'. Sri Radha bhava which is spread all over the Universe is extremely powerful. The mind of the devotee who is in awareness of Her is automatically attracted towards Radha bhava and becomes purified. The bhava of yearning is invisibly present in the mind of a sincere devotee. He experiences this bliss as waves of joy. This is the wave of Mother's Hladini Shakti. Till such great waves of joy rise in you, the link with Mother's bhava has not begun. When the awareness of Radha bhava continues effortlessly without any gap, this is an indication that the mind is deeply attracted towards rasa bhava; that bhava which is beyond name, form or guna! "

" How is it possible to develop this intense attachment towards Mother? Vedas said 'Mounam Tapas' (Silence is Penance). Both name and form are related to nature. You must go beyond them towards formless silence. Silence is not related to nature. How can this state of silence be defined? What kind of silence should we adopt? There are three points. The silence which comprises of these three points is very powerful. Silence is not uniform. You must be"

" 1) Positively receptive "

" 2) Alert "

" 3) Fully aware "

" Silence should comprise of the above three qualities. When a candidate who has written the IAS exam sees the results in the Gazette, he does so with utmost concentration. Similarly, when you are in silence, concentrate with the bhava that 'Mother has arrived. She is here now'. Use all your concentration. Maintain silence with that highest concentration. Mother will certainly come. "

" Ah! Mother is coming just now. Fill your mind with Her bhava. You must be alert. All your concentration should be reflected in your alertness. You must be fully aware, not casual, but fully aware! "

" You must attain the feeling that 'Mother has come. She is here'. If you think of Mother casually, your mind will be diverted towards many other matters. That is not right. If you have the three qualities stated above, your mind will be stable. A candidate who is about to see his IAS results will have a stable mind. His heart and mind concentrate only on the results. This is the state in which the Maha rishis always are! The sages like Atri said that their silence contains all the three qualities. "

" Silence has the power to 'touch' even God. If you give a single loud and intensely concentrated call to God 'Will you not come to me? When will you come?' he will certainly respond and come to you. If 1000 people perform dhyana there will be only one among them who follows this practice. That one person should be you! That is the only way to practice dhyana. "

" At times when we are deeply immersed in dhyana, we feel like weeping. We feel that Mother has come near us and feel a shiver in our body. You cannot think of anything else once She enters you. You will not need anything anymore. Focus all your attention only on Her. This should reach such an intense level that you have tears in your eyes. The only way to reach this state is through silence with the three qualities mentioned above. When we are associated with nature, several impressions can form on the mind. We should be careful and not allow this to happen. We must not crave for the world, we must desire the three qualities mentioned above. Concentrate with your eyes closed and remain in total silence. Be with the bhava that 'Mother has come. There is no doubt that She is here. Mother You have come and blessed me!' Such an intense silence for half an hour is enough. It will touch the heart. Yearn for oneness with Mother. Don't be attached to any object in the world. Krishna said 'Yathechsi Tathakuru' (Do whatever you wish) He should be our guide in passivity. Don't comment about any topic in the world. Practice absolute silence. By the combination of dhyana and silence, you will certainly find a place at the feet of the all-pervading Supreme Goddess. "

" The real Radha is only in mental plane, not in physical plane. The real rasa leela cannot be witnessed. You must ascend from the visible to the invisible. We weep while listening to music. It is not due to the sound. When we listen to music, the wheels within us start rotating. Through this, the mind should yearn for Radha. Bhava is higher and deeper than outer phenomena. There are two concepts-Roopa Radha and Tattvatah Radha. 'Tattva Radha is highly superior, where there is no form, only bhava; only tattva. I did not accept Roopa (form). I accepted tattva(formless). We are the children of the all-pervading Mother. Therefore, we must strive to make our mind also all-pervading. The mind is naturally in a state of Moksha. We think of irrelevant matters and make the mind descend. Jada Bharata came down like this. Wiping off all base thoughts is the real silence. "

" Mother is our life. We cannot survive without life. It is our duty to hold on to that which gives us protection. We must follow spiritual dharma rather than worldly dharma. Meditate only on Mother, the embodiment of love. Be devoted only to Her. Separate out from nature, enter the room of Radha bhava and meditate upon Mother in a state of total silence. "

Ten days passed like ten seconds with such divine lectures in the presence of Nanna who was always immersed in bhava. The devotees of Nanna-the confidential sakhi of Sri Radha Mahadevi were mesmerized by the waves of ecstatic powers surrounding him and emerging from him every moment. Even at an age above 100 years, he was engaged in propagating Sri Radha tattva and serving Her with abundant calmness, patience and love. This is a reflection of Sri Radha's love.

" Above this perishable physical body there is a cosmic body and above that, there is bhava deha. Sakhi's body is bhavadeha. That bhava is called transcendental bhava. It is not purusha bhava but purushottama bhava (the highest among men). This can be understood only in bhava. "

" I do not agree with the statement that Radha devi formed the eight Sakhis (Astasakhi). How can She who is served and they who serve Her be the same? Lalitha sakhi ascended from maid status to Sakhi status. As for Radhaji , She is all along like this. She is Radha in past, present and future. Don't define the Highest. It is beyond definition. Yato-----It cannot be understood by word or mind! Mother is always Mother. She is eternally transcendental. Mamai---- Krishna said that all the living beings are parts of him. Does that mean that Krishna and we are equal? Never. The seven colours together become white but independently none of them are white. All the eight sakhis together cannot become Radha. Radha bhava is above Sakhi bhava. Unless Radha bhava is attained it is not possble to drown in the ocean of rasa. The Sakhis are always in dasya bhava also. The two-shouldered Krishna also worships Tattva Radha only. "

" It is a great sin to be in this body. Don't bother about the body. If you remain detached, She will take care of the rest. Her graceful sight is bestowed in all directions. We must hold Mother the way the devotee Markandeya held Shiva "

Thus, Nanna gave divine advice to the devotees who drowned in Radhasakhi's divine waves during those ten days.

Sadhu bano ya gyani bano sat
Bhakt bano vrajras nahi mila
Vrajras milat sakhi pada kamal mein
Ras bhar madhur sakhi vachan mein
----

Whether it is a Sadhu, intellectual or a devotee he cannot get Vraja Rasa. The rasa lies at the lotus feet of Radhasakhi andin her words.
