FINITE AND INFINITE
2001, Guntur Ashram

Bahunam janmanamante gyanavan mam prapadyate

Vasudeva sarvamithi sa mahatma sudurlabha

The Gita says. 'After several lives of penance, he becomes enlightened and seeks shelter in me. Only he can visualize the all-pervading nature of God. Such Mahatmas are very rare.'

Nanna is the great personality who sees the all pervading Supreme Mother each and every moment. The Gita proclaimed that one who sees God everywhere and in everything is a Mahatma. How to recognize a Mahatma? One who has extensively read literature and speaks about various topics related to God does not become a Mahatma. We should be very careful in this aspect of identifying a Mahatma' Nanna said.

Nanna explained the path of dharma:

" If we wish to proceed on the path of dharma as laid down in the Sruthis (scriptures), 'Sruthayorvi bhinna' they advise differently on different occasions. Once it says "Aham Brahmasmi" , yet again it says 'Pradhana Kshetragyah Patirgunesah'. The same Veda that says that 'I am Brahma' also says 'God is the Master of nature as well as man. He is the repository of Divine Qualities'. Since the Sruthis say differently on different occasions, this is not the path for dharma. If we decide to simply follow the dharma, each era (of God's incarnation) has a different dharma. It is not possible to follow this dharma, which keeps changing with time. Then what is to be done? "

" 'Mahajanah Yena gatah Sa panthah' - 'The path on which the great people moved is the path that we should follow' "

" Great person means a Mahatma. Gita has defined a Mahatma. Therefore, the path treaded by a Mahatma who sees God in every atom of nature is the path that we must follow. "

" The tattva of God is permeated at every microscopic level in the entire infinite universe. It has no name or form. It is beyond the three gunas of nature. I worship that all pervading tattva. Krishna himself worships that tattva. Since the tattva is worshipped by Krishna, it is called 'Radha'. This is clarified in the vedic verse 'Krishnena aradhyateti Radha'. By reversing 'Radha' it becomes 'dhara' (flow). Dhara is infinite. It is endless and all pervading. That is the God I worship, the embodiment of Mahabhava. Mahabhava itself is all pervading. "

While speaking about the infinite, Nanna gradually ascended to the state of divine bhava. In that state, he spoke about the higher plane that the human being was at initially, why he descended to his present plane and about finite and infinite. His speech was like a tidal flow.

" Mamaivamso jeeva loke jeeva bhootasanatana' - All living beings were a part of God at one time. The living being had a cosmic mind. When the 12 year old Shringi cursed a Mahatma like Parikshit, the curse was effective. What happened to such powers today? I questioned Annie Beasant about it. In 1921-22, myself, Jiddu Krishna Murthy garu, Yadhunandana Prasad garu used to meet Annie Beasant amma regularly in Madras. I asked her 'what happened to the splendour and infinite atomic power that India had at one time? Why did we decline to such an extent under the rule and regime of outsiders? In reply, she quoted a verse from the Gita: "

Yat sastra vidhi mutyajya varthate kamakarataha

Nachasiddhimavapnothi na sukham na parangatihi

" The source of India's inherent power was penance and spiritual practice. Indians gradually gave up both which resulted in their present powerless condition. "

" The living being came from the dham at a higher plane and descended with a finite body. He came here because he desired nature. Everything is finite here. He thought, desired and came here. 'Yat bhavo tat bhavati' - so you think, so it happens. "

" The finite wakes you up into finite. There is no factor which wakes you up and puts you in infinite. Everything in this world is finite. You love finite; you want finite and so you live in finite. That is our life. I have seen so many so called Mahatmas and sanyasis in their state after death. They come from finite, live in finite, weep for finite and again get into finite. This is their life. The body consciousness comes only to cut off your continuity. Day and night occur only to separate you from the continuity. This is only Maya - delusion. Maya cuts off your infinity. "

'Anantovai Brahma Anantovai Vishnu'

" We are mechanically reciting but really we are not feeling infinite because we revert back to finite. We got accustomed to living in the finite. Today Mother is reminding me of all these aspects. Whenever I think of the infinite and infinite Mother, I feel like weeping. I don't know why I feel this grief. "

" Astrology literature is finite; spiritual scriptures are finite; Vedas are finite; the incarnations are also finite. "

Listening to Nanna, we were spell bound. He states that even Vedas and incarnations are also finite!! Vedas are considered to be the highest among the various practices to know God. If such a Veda is finite, how is it possible to learn about the infinite?

" It is not based on any assumption. Observe critically. One Veda ended and another began, then the next. There are four Vedas. When a number appears, it becomes finite. Infinity has no numeral value. The Sun and moon have a limited life. The sciences are also short lived. We feel that this is normal life. 'Visvodhbhava sthithi' - layeshu nimitta leela' - but this is all pre destined, we are only living an act. However, we are not taking this fact seriously. The so-called birth and death are small bricks. We are slicing the space! By reciting 'Om Bhu Bhuva' , we are slicing time into pieces. Name and form are short lived. The span of arts is short lived. 'Naiva stree na upamaneshu napunsaka' - there was no feminine, masculine or neutral gender in the world. How can a living being have a gender! We created them in a world which had no gender. Then life became finite. "

" Lord Brahma said that his short life span is not sufficient to give a discourse on Sri Radhaji's divine tattva. She is so infinite that a short-lived man like even Brahma cannot do justice. That is his pravachana (discourse). Understand the implication carefully. "

" Recall the story of Jada Bharata. He meditated on a small object and became a small animal. That is the nature of love prevailing on this earth! Such a love will drag you into a short life. You cannot love the air, sky or ocean. You can only love a girl or a boy. I have not come across many poets who have described the infinite. They can't even describe the sky and ocean completely. At the most, they can describe the waves and ships - the finite objects. All the Gods in our scriptures are finite figures. Taiman Swami, a great Yogi addressed God as 'Infinite vacuum' and wonderfully eulogized this tattva of infinity in one book. He is a staunch yogi, Yogi of the highest order. He described the endless and infinite state of silence. "

" Do you want this infinite happiness? It can be attained only through silence. Nature does not interfere in silence. When the hurdles of nature are overcome, thoughtless mind is attained. In this state of thoughtless mind, significant waves of bliss rise and fall. Within 2-3 minutes of obtaining the thoughtless mind, you experience ecstatic bliss and joy. Once you cross the finite nature, there is only bliss. If you want infinite joy and knowledge, remain in silence. Silence is unaffected by your thoughts and cannot be explained. This is the message for today. There is no joy without silence. There is no joy or knowledge that the living being cannot achieve in silence. Infinite knowledge and joy evolve only from silence. "

'Tadaikshyati bahusyam prajayaiyethi.'

" Having decided that 'I will become many', the One became many. This means that the Supreme Goddess has enveloped and permeated in every atom of the infinite Universe. Many are a part of One! Diversity is a fragment of Unity! The 'many' in nature is only due to the will of the Goddess. What is of utmost importance to experience this all pervading, infinite tattva of God is 'Brahma charya deeksha' (the vow of chastity). People think that there is great pleasure in family life. No one will admit that this phase is not permanent or this is not the real happiness. If you are married, live that life and perform penance within you. After some time you will leave this marital life and hold Her. Only Mother knows how long it will take for each one to reach this state! Once the experience of Mother is felt, detachment towards family automatically develops. It is 60 years since I am detached from my family. Kamigaka mokshakami kadu. Initially, man has desire towards family and later develops desire for liberation. For some persons, desire for liberation comes early. This is only due to the fruit of good deeds in the previous birth. By having Radhaji in dhyana, desires perish and the path becomes easy to tread. Only incessant flow of dhyana leads you to Mother. Feel God everywhere. This is the only penance. "

" The flow of dhyana is just constantly being in the bhava that 'nameless and formless Mother is always with me'. Mahatma is one who worships the all pervading. This is my path of Dhyana. "

The mind is overwhelmed with the thought of the all pervading, infinite, light of rasa - Sri Radha's grace. By seeing Her Sakhi we can understand how much love Mother has towards man. She personally identified Her confidential Sakhi and sent him on the earth. We are all blessed by being in the presence of this confidential sakhi. In our knowledge, Vedas are the highest. Nanna - the Rasika Siromani is the Radhasakhi who belongs to the kingdom of rasa that is beyond the Vedas. When Nanna said that even Vedas and incarnations are finite, it is the truth seen by him as an invisible aspect of Sri Radha.

" I am constantly above the state of Moksha, several planes higher than that state "

Only Radhasakhi who confidently proclaimed in this manner has the authority and eligibility to speak about the Infinite!

" I do not know why Mother is reminding me of all these aspects today "

Why else? It is only due to the overflowing love and grace of Radha and Radhasakhi on all of us. Mother conveyed these facts through Her Sakhi. This is the fruit of our penance of so many births! Whenever I refer to Nanna's grace, I say it is due to our penance, knowing fully well that such words cannot describe their loving nature. Yet I have no other words to express. I remember Nanna's words that 'You cannot perform the penance that will grant you Mother's presence'. Therefore, we obtained his grace only by his selfless love. By the divine grace of Sri Radha, Radhasakhi came in our midst and showed us the path of Sri Radha rasa dhyana. Sakhi is churning the cream of the philosophical world and handing rasa to the human beings. Radhasakhi lovingly beckons the human beings 'I am handing over the ripe fruit. Think and experience'. This fruit is worship of Sri Radha; worship of Rasa!
