FOUR DIVINE PRINCIPLES

What a pious Brindavan! More pious is Nanna's ashram! We all wonder how many times Supreme Mother visited this ashram and how often She played with him, Her Sakhi!

Our Nanna, the Radhasakhi sat amidst his devotees immersed in a state of rasa. He explained the four divine principles granted to him by Radharani in the forests of Ravali. Nanna said that these divine principles are the Bhagawad Gita for the devotees who follow the path of Radha dhyana.

Nanna was always cautious where his devotees were concerned. It is well known that there are more Gurus who give trouble to devotees than Gurus who impart real knowledge in this world. He was always observing whether we would seek such Guru's shelter out of ignorance or innocence. Nanna said that a real Guru is one who should have seen the all-pervading God and also be able to show God to eligible devotees. One who cannot do either of these is not a Guru but a cheater.
The principles granted to Nanna by Mother:

" 1) Tavasukhena mama sukham - considering others happiness as one's own. "

" 2) Nitya Sahacharini Vratam - Vow of Constant companionship "

" 3) Ananya nishta - Single minded devotion "

" 4) Sakara Nirakara Samanvayam - synchronization of the Form and the Formless aspects of Mother "

While explaining the above four principles, Nanna talked about many more topics and enlightened us.

" Some day, in some birth one should see God everywhere, just like Prahlada did. Otherwise Moksha (salvation) cannot be attained. Only he who sees God in this way is a Guru. Can these so called Gurus see the all-pervading Mother Radha? Swami Vivekananda used to ask everyone whether they saw God. One day he went to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and asked the same question. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa replied in the affirmative. When Vivekananda questioned 'where is God?' he replied 'God is everywhere! I saw the all-pervading God. I will show you also'. He is a real Guru. The guru should see the all-pervading God himself and show you also. Only one who can do both is a real Guru. It is good if you are able to attain such a Guru. Be cautious about seeking the shelter of false Gurus. Like Vivekananda you also must ask the Guru 'did you see the all-pervading God? Will you show me too'? Do not blindly believe whatever he says. If he points out to a snuff box (in other words, limiting the presence of God) and says God is there, do not believe him! How can the all-pervading God who has permeated the infinite universe be confined in a little box? It can't be so! This is the difficulty with such Gurus. That's why even Dhyana Yoga urges us to seek the shelter of the all-pervading God. "

" You must question the Guru how can we seek shelter of the all-pervading and omnipotent God? How should we worship him? Coming to the crux of the subject, you all must worship the all-pervading Radhadevi. This is very difficult to achieve. You cannot attain the omnipresent God merely with words. He will not yield to your words of praise. Then how can he be attained? 'Mounam Vyakhya' (Maintain silence). Approach Him in silence, not through words. Silence is everywhere. Therefore, one who seeks mounam (silence) is a muni (sage). Atri is a great sage. The sages do not speak; they maintain silence. So I must give you 'Mouna Deeksha' (vow of silence). How can you see God in silence? You must practice silence; you know only speech. As long as you speak, God cannot be attained. How many praises you may sing, how many Ramayanas and Bhagawatas you may read, God will not come! If you have been told that this is the way to attain God, it is not correct. You must maintain silence if you want God. Silence has tremendous power! Mother will bestow that power on you slowly. "

" You weep when your uncle dies because you cannot see him any more. But I can see him! I am openly stating that I can see your dead uncle whereas you cannot. Your power is limited; your sight is limited. When your dead uncle cannot be seen (by your guru), how can God be seen? That is all hoodwinking. Don't try to deceive me with these tricks. If a guru cheats, he is a fake Guru. You must ask the so-called Guru whether he can see your dead uncle and speak to him! When he admits that it is not possible for him to do so, you must remark ' when you cannot see my uncle, how can you see God? You are fooling me!' and relinquish him as your Guru. Do you understand? You may feel that my expression is difficult. I am not attainable to everyone. Only because you are lucky, you came to me. I generally don't tell anyone; I don't let out my secret to anyone. (Really, we are indeed fortunate!) "

" Now, how can you feel Her presence before I show the all-pervading Mother to you? Only through silence! You all must also become like those great sages. Unless you become a great sage, God cannot be attained. Anasuya's husband Atri was a great sage. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - the Trinity came down during his silence and told him 'your wife said she would look after us like children. So we came here as children'. Thus God should respond when he is called. Silence is essential to worship the omni-present God. As long as you are in this world, Maya (delusion) will lure you. Maya cannot be overcome in this world. So, silence is present only beyond 'Prakriti'. Prakriti has no influence in silence. I will teach you how to maintain that silence. "

" You will not find real sages in this world, as there are more cheaters. Even the very few who are present move in solitude. I will teach you how to practise silence. You must implement this mouna deeksha (vow of silence), which has no mantras. Mantras cannot bring God because they originate from words and sound. How can sound hold God? Impossible! Can the form hold God? No. Can Prakriti hold God? Never. So you must always think (do chintana) of the all-pervading God! It is so difficult that it cannot be preached by one and all. One cannot simply point out that God is here or there. Your body is so large. Can you see within this body? You can't! The bhava of this physical body should also vanish. It should be shed gradually. "

" There are two aspects involved in silence. When you will call 'Mother' She must hear you. She must also respond to you. Both of these should happen. Both will happen. I am sure of this. "

" Mother will not speak to you. You must make Her speak to you. "

" As you are watching Her, She will suddenly disappear. It is important that this happens. Radhaji has that power. Ramakrishna Parahamsa could not see Mother for a long time. He took a knife and decided to cut off his head because he could not live without seeing Her. At that time, Mother held his hand and he saw Her. 'Why are you giving up your life? Where do you think I am? I am near you, watching you. Do not commit such a mistake. I will come when the time is due'. "

" Mother said 'See me everywhere. Keep looking out for me with the thought that 'wherever I go, She is there. Infact She is here now'. Then you will certainly see me. This is the only way to reach me'. "

" I am not alone. Mother is always present with me. Radharani is beside me as I am talking to you now. She is observing us. I am speaking in Her presence. Otherwise I have no right to speak. You also should always be in this bhava all the time. "

" When you are angry on someone, recollect that Mother is near you and you should not speak in this way. When a poor and needy person approaches you, offer him something. "

" Mother gifted us with four principles. (I talked about them yesterday). You must live by these four principles. Then Mother will definitely come. The first principle is 'Tatsukena Sukhitawam' (Considering others happiness as yours). Mother told that it is your duty to make others happy. If a needy person comes to you, give him food and clothes and speak a few pleasant words. Don't create enemies. Even if the other person quarrels and scolds you, don't retaliate. You must remain calm and controlled. Calmness is a great virtue. A renowned musician, Tyagaraju also extolled this quality saying that 'without placidity there is no pleasure'. If you want to be happy, you must be placid and calm. You must control your anger. You must give up your anger completely. Great sages do not get angry. They don't react to anything that anyone says! "

" When my guru Siddharudhaswami was nine years old, he sat in one place and went into samadhi with his eyes open. It is not necessary to close your eyes for Samadhi. Such a samadhi with eyes open is called 'Chaitanya Samadhi'. The person is in a fully conscious state. So even while speaking to someone, do not lose the bhava that Mother is near you. This is the penance you must do! Whether you sit or stand or do anything, never give up the bhava that 'Mother is with me. I am not alone. I am moving along with Mother'. "

" When my Guru was sitting in samadhi, a person named Homappa who lost his bullock went near my Guru and enquired whether he saw in which direction the bullock went! He did not responsd because he was still in Samadhi. There is no need to lose consciousness for Samadhi. We can be in Samadhi even when we are conscious. That is bhava! "

" Mother's bhava is more profound than this bhava. You should constantly be in Her bhava, thinking of Her. Remain in the bhava that 'I am not alone. I am with Mother.' With this great bhava you will never be alone wherever you go. Never ever give up the bhava that you are not alone. Mother is with you and you are with Mother. That is the real penance. Little Prahlad understood this penance. He said 'My Hari is with me. I am not alone. I do not exist without him and he without me.' Now you are Mother's children; She will not leave you. I will cite an example. I was writing Volume 3 of Brindavaneswari Sri Radha in my room in Guntur ashram. It was peak summer and we were perspiring profusely. There was no power and no fan. It was very uncomfortable, still I was writing continuously because Mother's work should not be stopped. At that time, an unknown person came to see me. He asked why I was writing while sweating so much; could I not continue the next day? I replied 'I must write now because the book should be completed tonight. It can't be postponed to tomorrow. This is Mother's work; it must be completed today only.' Immediately that person called an electrician, spent Rs 10000 and got the room air conditioned by 8 p.m. Who gave him that thought at that moment? Mother only! In this way She is always with you. I gave you an example to stress that She will always be with you. If you do not leave Her, She will not leave you. Be with Mother every moment, nothing else matters. I am speaking to you while She is watching; I am talking while She is listening; I am eating while She is watching. I am doing everything while She is watching. In this way spend your time with Mother not leaving Her even for a moment. Try to be like this for 15 minutes thinking that She is with you. I always weep for Mother. Though I am always with Her, I weep to go near Her. You will slowly begin to feel 'I don't need this world. I want to be near You.' Remain in such thoughts. "

" Do not have undue attachment towards any object here. Yearn for oneness with Mother. You must attain the state that 'I want Mother only. I cannot live without Her.' Paramahamsa attempted to kill himself with a knife in that state. I am also always weeping for Mother. "

" We say that we dedicate our mind to God. What does this mean? Dedication to God is no small matter. Dedicating the mind actually means surrendering your family, your children, everything to Him. Your family is no longer yours; it is now His. This bhava should emerge from within you. "

Nanna, can we be in the family and still be dedicated to God?

" Dedication and surrender are very great. You cannot be dedicated unless you are passive towards the world and yearn for oneness with Mother. Once you are dedicated to Mother, your children, husband, relatives -nobody exist. Only Mother! If they are still in your mind, it means that you have not dedicated yourself completely. You don't need to be very intelligent to understand this concept. I will explain in simple terms. "

" When once you have dedicated your mind to God, is it correct to speak about your children? If you have really surrendered your mind, you will not remember anyone else. So it means that you have not given Him your mind and not given up your children. "

" It is important to know what Krishna said - Don't ignore Sastras or the words of Divine Persons. Conduct yourself according to their preachings. "

Yat sastra vidhi mutsrajya varthathe kamakarathaha

Nacha siddhi mavapnoti na sukham na parangathihi

" In this verse Krishna says 'Whoever thinks that he doesn't want to follow the procedures of Sastras; doesn't pay heed to the words of elders and does as he pleases; behaves the way he feels like; any work that he does is incomplete. He will encounter many obstacles in the way and work will not progress. "

" He must face three punishments. The first punishment:-'Na cha Siddhi mavapnoti' : Work will not be successful "

" The second punishment:- 'Na sukham na paramgatih' : He has no happiness in this world and no peace after death. So, there is no peace either when alive or dead. "

" The third punishment: All his efforts will be in vain and bear no fruit. "

" Therefore it is advisable to pay heed to the words of scriptures and elders and conduct your behaviour accordingly. This is the foremost preaching of Krishna. I am also repeating the same. The words of scriptures and elders will come later. Now listen carefully. Mother granted me four divine principles. Consider these principles as valuable gems in your life. These words are more powerful than the Vedas. I will also give a scientific reasoning for each of the four principles. "

DIVINE WORDS OF MOTHER
Tatsukhena Sukhitwam :

" Live with the feeling that others happiness is your happiness. Do not hurt or harm anyone. Mother likes them who consider others happiness as their own. She will make them prosper. You will feel if any human being is hurt even a little. Lord Vishnu once told his doorkeepers (Jaya and Vijaya) not to stop any Mahatma from entering his chamber. When Lakshmidevi traveled around the worlds, blessed all her devotees and returned to Vaikuntha, Jaya and Vijaya did not allow her to enter. That is an unpardonable mistake. In the same way Mother or someone else will enter your mind now and then. You will be aware of their entry. If it is someone else let them leave; don't speak to them. Never deny Mother and Her privileged ones entry. Be careful. Remember the order - elders first, younger next. This applies even to your husband! God comes first and then only the world follows. Remember this forever. Brahma's intellectual sons Even when Sanaka and others came to Vaikuntha, Jaya and Vijaya stopped them. Lakshmi Devi did not react because that is her dharma. She does not punish directly; but she certainly arranges it. That's how Sanaka cursed Jaya and Vijaya. "

" If you hurt any living being, you will also be hurt! Jaya and Vijaya wept that their karmas were not dissolved even though they were in God's service. The Lord said 'though you are with us, you must follow our orders. Since you disobeyed, you were cursed.' They took birth as demons, committed all sins and became debased. Hence, we must respect God's words, follow religious scriptures and live accordingly. "

" Always view the world with the bhava that others happiness is yours; others pleasure is yours. Don't hate anyone or anything because everything in this world is God's creation. If you do not like someone remain indifferent but don't hate or blame. "

Nityasahacharini vratham :

" Be a constant companion of Radhadevi. You should always move along with Her. You should live like that. I shall exemplify. Kaikeyi asked for two boons - exile of Rama and kingship for her son. Rama declared that he would abide by his mother's orders from that very moment. He told Sita to stay back and look after his mother. Then Sita reminded him 'you desired that I should be your companion. As your companion, it is my duty to accompany you all the time.' The wife's duty is to be a constant companion of her husband. Just as Sita diligently followed Rama's words, we too must follow the words of our elders. If we do not do so, we will be ruined. "

" Do not criticize any other God. Even if you feel they are inferior, never say so. This is how a Mahatma behaves! Did Goddess Lakshmi scold them or abuse Jaya and Vijaya when they did not allow her to enter Vaikuntha? Don't criticize or insult anyone even if you don't like his words or deeds. If you don't like something remain indifferent but don't criticize. It is not appropriate to do so. "

Ananya nishta :

" Learn to see your deity everywhere. Just as you respect Radhadevi, you must respect other Gods too. Don't criticize. This is known as Ananya Nishta (single pointed devotion). Mother is very fond of cows and serving them. Don't think that it is just an animal, so what, if we don't serve it? Mother respects them a lot and cares for them. If you criticize, harm or kill the cows, She will be very hurt. You will simply move away from Her. Be careful. Remember, never hurt Mother; always strive for Her happiness. "

" I will now narrate a very important incident, Kulachandra's story. The Britishers tied cows before their army on the battlefield. The great warrior king Kulachandra thought 'Mother will be hurt if we slaughter these cows. So, I will not fight this battle' and surrendered to the Britishers. He surrendered just because he did not want to hurt Mother. That's why the Britishers respected him though he was a prisoner. This is by Mother's grace! "

" Do not do anything, which Mother dislikes. If any sages come to your house, offer some rice, if available. Otherwise politely tell them that you are unable to offer anything but don't insult them. Mother will not like your disrespecting them. Mother regards them; you too must do the same. "

" Share these words with other people and help them to behave righteously. This will please Mother. Kulachandra surrendered in the war and went to the prison only because he did not want to hurt Her. He did not kill a single cow. He went to jail but did not hurt Mother. This is the lesson each one must learn. "

Sakara nirakara samanvayam :

" A form means a representation, an idol with a specific appearance. Formless means no idol. Mother has encompassed the entire Universe. That is formlessness! That is Her appearance! It is only because of this formless nature that when someone in South India was ill, we pleaded his case to Mother (from here in North India) and he was cured. Mother is there and here also. She is present in Kasi too. Understand this clearly. I am everywhere. Though a person who is suffering is far away, I must help him. This is the fourth principle - the Form and Formless appearance of Mother. Form is idol; Formless is without any appearance. She is present everywhere without any form. "

" Mother has two appearances-Form and Formless. Remember the examples that I have given. When someone in Guntur was serious, we thought of Mother here (in Brindavan) and gave him Mantra. He became well there. This was possible only because of Her Formless nature; only because She is all-pervading.I will cover this topic in four chapters. This is the first chapter - Mother's Enlightenment. Anyone who abides by this will be greatly benefited. "

" Man came down to earth to fulfill some desires, which he had. Depending on his desires, God gave him a body, wife, children, house, wealth etc. Each man has a number of desires. If God would ask us what we desire, we will have a list of some 70-80 desires! Everyone has desires; this is the inherent nature of the worldly man. But he who wants God will have only one desire. As the number of desires increases, your worldly life will also increase and God will move farther away from you. Therefore one who wants God must have only one desire, 'I want only God. I want only Mother. I came here for Mother only. I don't want anything else. I will forget everything. I will give up everything.' Then he will not have attachment for anyone or anything except God. Our greatest weakness is that we accrue desires. We must reduce them. The 'many' desires should be brought down to a 'single' desire. This is not possible for ordinary persons. Man should reach such a state that he feels 'I want God. I want only Mother; nothing else'. The life in which you will have this single desire will be your last birth. God says 'those who have several desires don't come to me. I don't allow them near me. I permit only those who have a single desire to come to me.' Even Bhagawad Gita states: 'Sarvadharmaan----- '- I will grant you moksha(salvation) only when you will perform two acts:- "

" Give up all dharmas. There are so many dharmas, give up all of them. Do not have any attachment for anything. Seek Shelter in me only, no one else. "

" Geeta also says 'Give up all other desires and retain only one' "

" Sankaracharya said, 'Mata nasti pita nasti, nasti bandhu sahodaraha ardham nasti gruha nasti tasmat jagratta ..' (You are clinging to your mother, father, relatives, wealth, property but none of them will come along with you when you leave this world) "

" It is very difficult to reach that state of total renunciation when you will have the one desire to have Mother only. You may find such only one in a million! The Vedas say 'Yato vacho nivartante aprapya manasa saha' (Neither your words nor mind can catch God.) He is Avagmanasa gocharudu' (who can't be seen by words or mind). Then how can we reach such a God? You cannot go to him because he is invisible. The Vedas have clearly stated this fact. So you must always have only one desire 'I want Mother'. Diligently practise these four principles which are invaluable gems of wisdom. "

Nanna said in between his speech

" I am not attainable by everyone. Only because you are lucky, you came to me. I don't part with my secret to anyone. "

It is really impossible to attain Nanna-the intimate, confidential sakhi of Sri Radha through any kind of penance. With his natural love and mercy only, he vouchsafed himself to us.

Brahmeswaradi sudurooha padaravinda

Srimadparaga paramadhbhuta vaibhavayaha….'

It is said that the grandeur of Sri Radha Maha Devi is beyond the comprehension of even Brahma and Shiva. Radhasakhi is the confidential Sakhi who is in Mother's presence every moment. With abundant and selfless love, the sakhi not only granted us the opportunity to be at her holy feet but also is taking care of our welfare every moment.

While saying 'you must think about all pervading God. It is difficult for everyone to preach this' Nanna added 'I can'. Nanna always quoted "Vasudeva Sarvamiti' from Gita and "Indugaladandu ledani sandehamu valadu' of Prahlad to highlight the omnipresence concept of God. He used to constantly witness this all-pervading tattva. Who else but all-pervading Radhasakhi can speak about the all-pervading Supreme Mother?

" I am everywhere. Even when a person far away is in distress, I must help him "

Nanna spoke these sentences in a state of equality between him(sakhi) and his Swamini. Mother is formless while he, Mother's Sakhi has a form. From this, he wanted us to synchronize between the form and formless. Nanna, intermittently exhibited this divine state of union and separation between him and Radha Rani. No one realized before he left for Sri Nikunj that he planned to reveal his true form and hence subtly hinted the same in his talks.

" Write down these four principles lest you forget them "

he cautioned. Nanna! You are showering such abundant and selfless love on us. You once said,

" If we really know how much Mother loves us, we cannot bear it. "

When we see your love, we are slowly able to understand the invisible love of Mother as She is 'Bhaktanugraha Katara' (ever eager to shower blessings on Her devotees.)It is indeed a fact that there is no difference between your love and Mother's love.

He ensured that we noted down the four principles lest we forget them. This is the difference between an ordinary Guru and a Rasa Guru. Any other Guru will preach what he intended and leaves it there. But a Rasa guru like Nanna not only preaches but also takes all precautions to see that we do not forget his divine preaching. Moreover, he insists that we note down the important points. By doing so, there is also a caution that these four principles should be read and memorized regularly. By insisting on us noting down he is implicitly stating that they should be etched in our heart permanently.

Nanna says 'Our greatest weakness----' he includes himself along with us. His speech, bhava and tattva are very sensitive. He never belittles us though we have so many shortfalls. In fact he never bothers about them. If such a situation should arise that he must point out our deficiencies, he would do so very subtly and sensitively which does not pinch us. That is Nanna's style.

" He is beyond the reach of speech and mind. How can you go to Him? You cannot! Hence you must have a single desire I want Mother "

By these words he showed us the easy way to attain the most difficult-to attain presence of God. That is his love and immense grace towards human beings.
