SELF SURRENDER

Sakhi tattva is the quintessence of Sri Radha tattva. A Sakhi yearns for Radha rasa, not for Radha's name or form. That's why, all those who approach such a Sakhi are involuntarily attracted towards Radha devi. The love of Sakhi is so invisibly infinitesimal. Sakhi is the closest and dearest to Radhadevi. The worldly man has several desires but Sakhi has a singular desire - Mother! Sakhi finds oneness everywhere! None other than Mother! ! Brahman is only one, there is no second thing; so only Mother, no one else.

Sri Radha is the personification of bhava. She rules the universe in a state of Mahabhava which is endless, eternal and infinite. Only Radhasakhi can lead us to the holy feet of the Mother. She says that only self surrender the royal path. She not only explained what self surrender means but is also guiding us to move on this path.

Once while Anjani amma sang the song composed by Nanna 'Atmarpaname kada nee raja bata……..', he gave a commentary on the whole song.

" Self surrender the only way to reach Mother. It is a supremely majestic path, above everything else, with no hurdles. In the Gita, Krishna says 'Sarva dharman parityajya mamekam saranam vraja'. He stresses that surrender of soul is the highest path. There is nothing beyond it. Self surrender supersedes all other dharmas. Therefore, he says 'Give up all dharmas, come to me and surrender yourself'. "

" Whatever is Mother is fond of, that is my favourite too! While doing any work I think whether She will like it? If She does not like something I also do not want that. As long as I have Her, I don't care even if the whole world disowns me. Remember that if your confidence wavers, you will lose a lot! "

" Once we develop the bhava of self surrender, Mother is also with us. Self surrender has such prominence. Though She is not visible, She is present in your heart in the invisible bhava roopa. Absolute self surrender is the fFeeling that you have no one else except Her. Once we realize and accept that you have none other than Her, She will never leave us. She will enter and permeate within us. "

" Unless you are constantly immersed in Her thoughts, you cannot surrender yourself. Don't believe when someone says it is possible to do so. Hence two points are essential - constant, uninterrupted thoughts of Mother and self surrender. "

" A devoted wife always accompanies her husband even if he is a leper. A sincere devotee will never leave his Supreme Goddess. Once Lord Hanuman cut his heart and showed that Rama and Sita are present in his heart. God is nowhere else; he will reside in your heart. We also must keep Mother in our heart. In other words, we must constantly be thinking about Her. This is what self surrender means! Mother's liking is my liking. She gives me instructions and I follow them. I want only Mother. There is no need for anything else. If I attempt to ride two horses simultaneously, I will have a great fall. Therefore, I don't want to ride a second horse. "

" This Kali yuga is one of Maya (delusion), which disturbs the mind. Several people approach you with false appearances and lure you saying that you will be able to see Mother very soon and that She will grant you everything. The devotees of the spirits will only approach you in this way. There are many Gods of the spirits. Do not believe them. Be extremely cautious. One person strayed from his path even after staying with me and realizing the powers of Mother to some extent. Later he suffered from unbearable headache. Though he requested me to cure him with Her mantra I refused. He is still suffering till date. Remember that Mother will never come near you if you appease the Gods of the spirit. This life will be wasted in this manner. We cannot say what fortune is in store for you in the next birth. Mother cannot be attained in this regard. Hence, never try to ride two horses simultaneously (never think of any other God). You may feel that the ride is smooth and fast, but you are bound to have a fall ! "

Thus Nanna explained what surrendering one's self means and why one should have attachment only towards Mother.

" This is the significant point. What do we have to lose? We are very happy in life. If you want to spend your life happily, you must surrender yourself to Her. Then you will not have any problems. She will take care of everything. Don't bother about how things will be arranged. You have no role whatsoever. She will take care of each and everything. "

" She will grant you everything. Even if you are facing the most adverse situation but are in a state of self surrender, She will direct you to the right path and relieve you from your troubles. We will peacefully leave this world. There is no doubt about it. "

" Mother will come irrespective of our wishing. Self surrender has such immense power! It is indeed an extraordinary power. Dhruvdasji, a great devotee of Radha was feeling about Her within him but could not express aloud and eulogize Her. He told Her his agony wept. Then She placed Her left foot on his head. Lo and behold, he transformed into a great poet. His creativity became a ceaseless and potent flow of Her works! In fact his books helped us immensely while writing 'Brindavaneswari Radha devi'. "

" Self surrender is very great. We should always be in Her thoughts in bhava. Don't resort to form, only to the formless. One verse of Gita proves the significance of meditating on the the Formless: "

Bahunam janmanamanthe gnayavan mam prapadyate

Vasudeva sarvamiti samahatma sudurlabhaha

" Only he who sees Mother everywhere is a true Mahatma. Such Mahatmas are very rare and few in this world. "

" See only Mother everywhere. What does seeing Mother mean? Whatever happens is by the will of Mother. This very moment, as I am speaking to you, She is behind me. I can speak to you only with Her inspiration. Whenever you go somewhere, go along with Her. Never leave Her. She is always with us in both good and bad times. "

" The other day, while we were writing the 8th volume, I said 'her (Rasamani) literary style is of a high order. It will be good to reduce it.' That night Mother told me that her style is good, it must not be changed; the book should continue in the same style. The style is a minor point. The major point is that Mother is always with us. "

" Remember that Mother will immediately point out when you commit even a small mistake. She will correct you softly as if she were telling a little child - 'Do it in this way, not that. Speak in this manner, not that! Behave like this not that'! She will not say anything harshly. She will speak to you with utmost love and tenderness. "

" Once Mother told Lalita sakhi 'Krishna may come now, please tell him not to come'. Lalita Devi blocked the way when Krishna came saying Mother told her not to allow him to enter. Krishna became helpless and pleaded 'I came for Mother and you are not allowing me to enter.' 'What can I do? This is Her instruction'. Then Mother came and said, 'Let him come. Poor Krishna is feeling so sad'. Lalita said 'No. I will not allow him to enter. Earlier you said he should not come, so he shall not come'. Then Mother came near Lalita, held her chin and pleaded 'My dear, please let him come'. Oh! Such tenderness! Lalita sakhi then allowed Krishna to go near Her. "

" That is Mother's leela! She grants such liberty to Her sakhis. At the same time, she withdraws them too! That is Her greatness. "

Nanna stopped here without revealing more secrets of bhava loka.

" Close your eyes and be in the thought that 'Mother is always with me' at all times. Remember that there is no sound, no mantras, no name and no form! Only Mother! Be deeply immersed in the bhava that she is with you, watching you. Within 2-3 months, She will grant you some visions. I will not discuss them now. You will certainly succumb to Her according to those visions. She will be pleased instantaneously. Hence you must be in constant meditation. I will speak about other matters later. "

" You should have the bhava of self surrender to Mother at all times. You should always be in a state of uninterrupted meditation. Don't attempt to ride two horses simultaneously; don't even think of prayers to spirits and evil forces. That is a very wrong practice. You may sacrifice to any extent for Mother. Don't ask Her anything. She knows your needs and will fulfill them. She knows how to manage your life. She will conduct your life in a memorable way. She is fully aware of your future. She will take care of everything. Never give up Mother and take up any other work. I will continue tomorrow. Radhe Radhe. "

Nanna leaned back and settled down to rest.

Nanna gave an excellent commentary on every verse of the song Atmarpaname kada ne raja bata…. He said that whoever says that he has surrendered himself to Mother without thinking of Her constantly is lying. Sometimes we wonder whether it is possible even for Mother to care for us as he does! The world is full of fake gurus who say that they have surrendered themselves to God. But their acts defy their words. Nanna always cautioned us not to trust someone who tries to convince you that you can have Mother's darshan easily by spending some money. This is an indication that they are in some way or other connected the spirits ! Nanna is watchful every moment ensuring that we don't become a prey to such false Gurus and be deceived by them. Nanna is not doing this because anyone asked him to. This is the inherent quality of Radhasakhi, our Rasa guru.

Moreover, Nanna always cautioned us against 'riding two horses' - offering prayers to other Gods too because this is in total contradiction to 'Ananya Nishta' - single pointed devotion. You must understand and identify the highest God and ascend in that direction. Thus Nanna lovingly advised us to take the right path.

Once Nanna was explaining how tender Mother and Her words are! He referred to a leela related to Lalita Sakhi. I was reading aloud the story of Shyamanandaji. I narrated that Mother told Lalita sakhi 'I seem to have dropped my anklet near Shyamananda's cottage. Go back and bring it to me'.Nanna said,

" She never speaks in such an authoritative tone. She says very tenderly. "Lalita, my anklet may have dropped near Shyamananda's cottage. Will you please go back and look for it?" Mother is so very gentle. "

Radhasakhi is also as gentle as Sri Radha taking care of her devotees every moment.Nanna again sat upright and continued his talk.

" Now I will discuss some points which are relevant and immensely useful to everyone. "

" Firstly, go into your room. Room is Radha bhava. We must be in Radha bhava for most of the time. This is very important and essential. "

" Secondly, close the doors behind you. You should not become entangled in worldly issues. We tend to worry when someone close to us is in trouble. But we must not be worried. Think that She will take care of everything. It is Her will. You must adopt this sense of surrender. Close the door behind you. What does prakriti mean? It means worldly desires and all other aspects on this earth. Therefore, forget this world once for all. Adopt a detached approach. Don't discriminate between anybody, treat everyone alike. We must develop this feeling for Mother sake. Whether we want or not, we must behave in a manner that will please Her. Suppose, inadvertently, we develop fondness for someone, correct yourself immediately. Plead with Mother to free you from these passions. She will certainly oblige. Do not hesitate to shut the door and give up attachment towards prakriti. In fact don't have a yearning for anything or any person. Don't think that you cannot live without a person, relative or thing. Learn to live without any attachments. You can live along with any number of people. There is no harm. It is only the attachment that draws us into the web of prakriti. Hence you must pine and yearn only for oneness with Mother. Always think that you cannot live without Her; you cannot survive without serving Her. Gulab Baba thought that there is no point in his living without Mother and gave up his life. Similarly, Raghunath das Goswami who lived on the banks of Radhakund also yearned for Mother. Kula chandra was a great king who was highly dedicated to Mother. He was prepared to forego his kingdom even at the cost of his life but refused to kill the cows which were dear to Mother. What a great sacrifice! Such a state is known as yearning for oneness with Mother. Therefore if you want to reach Her, you must constantly be in Her thoughts. You cannot be devoted to Her if you think of Her once a year. If you are immersed in Her thoughts for most of the time and consider Her as special, then only you can yearn for her. You can win over nature only when you have Her with you. Hence close the doors behind you. "

" Thirdly, pray in secret. Secret means silence. You must be in silence. There is no need to ask Her anything. She feels very happy when you keep Her in your heart and remain silent in the thought that She is with you. Remain silent and think in your mind 'Mother I belong to you. I have no body else'. Being with Her in such a state is very effective. So pray in secret. Pray in solitude. "

" All the three points are essential. Once you have all the three, that state of yearning for oneness with Mother can be attained to a great extent. Now practice for one hour. Implement all the three steps. Be immersed in the thoughts of Mother. There is no other way but being in Her thoughts. That is our room. Don't think about nature. Forget all worldly related aspects and become dedicated to Her thus bringing Her near you. Surrender your self wholehearted to Her. You must have these three steps in mind. There is one more point beyond these three steps - the bhava that 'Mother is always with me. She never leaves me even for a moment. She watches whatever I say and do.' It is sufficient for you to be in this bhava. Then you can forget the world. Remain in state of longing for Mother at all times. Today you try to perform dhyana by being in this bhava for one hour. "

This is Nanna's love! This is Radhasakhi's love! He never feels that his duty ends with speaking about Sri Radha tattva and incessant dhyana. On the contrary he makes us sit near him and guides us in dhyana. We cannot understand the benefit we gain by performing dhyana in his presence. He sees within everyone, rectifies whatever is necessary and if need arises, he himself enters the person and makes him perform dhyana. He transfers power to us for dhyana.

" Do not discriminate between anyone. View everyone with the same bhava. You must do so at least for Mother's sake "

He speaks in a manner which one adopts while speaking to a child trying to cajole us. He is not only our Guru; he is our Mother, Father, God, sakhi and our sovereign - Swamini. Can we ever repay him? That's not possible. If we really consider him as our Guru, we must perform incessant dhyana in the way he taught us and live with single pointed devotion. We must have only one path - Radha's path; only one Guru - Radhasakhi and only one God - Radhamahadevi.

As we delve deeper and try to analyse Nanna's words, we recollect the divine love that he showered on us and cannot perceive any difference between Sri Radha Rani and Radhasakhi. Our Nanna is the manifestation of the infinite love of Sri Radha. He is the reflection of Her magnificent luster. He is the representation of Her wonderful grace. Surrendering ourselves to Nanna is indeed the royal path to reach Her.

Within Sakhi are present Shyam and Shyama, Brindavan and Nikunj. The entire world of rasa is seen in the Sakhi. Undoubtedly, Shyama only is manifested in the form of a sakhi.
