SRI RADHA'S WORSHIP

Nanna used to regularly give lectures in Radha Krishna Mandir, Picket, Secunderabad. This is one of his lectures probably in 1993.

" This is a warning from Brindavan. Brindavan is the sleeping chamber. The yoga associated with Brindavan is prema yoga (the yoga of love!). You must understand the appropriate path to practice this yoga. "

" When anybody approached Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to become a devotee, he would conduct 5-6 tests. He observed how they sat, how they ate, how their senses react and how much control they had on their senses. Only when they passes his tests, he accepted them as his devotees, otherwise he outright rejected them. In the same way, there are some wonderful tests in Brindavan also. "

" Mother's sakhi, Her beloved, the personification of Her Hladini sakthi - the divine dynamic force said: "

" 'Without worshipping the divine feet of Sri Radha Devi' Worshipping Radhaji's feet means identifying a dynamo! What is the use of a motor without a dynamo? Only the dynamo can impart speed to the motor. So the essential requirement is Sakthi (power). Worship Sakthi. The Vedas proclaimed that everyone in India must be taught to worship Sakthi. That is how, evening prayers with Gayathri Mantra came into existence. Earlier Gayathri Mantra was chanted by men and evening; gradually women were restricted. This is worship of Gayathri Sakthti. Hence Sakthi worship is compulsory. There is no other way. "

" What is the root of Ramayana? How did Rama's difficulties begin? Due to Sakthi! Kaikeyi, King Dasaratha's wife was his Sakthi. She asked for the boons promised by him. Hence he was forced to agree to her demand to send Rama to the forest forfeiting his throne. Such is the importance of Sakthi! There are so many leelas to emphasize this fact. "

'Without association with Brindavan, Radhaji's favourite place of divine plays ...'

" Well, I want to tell you some points in my speech. You can listen to me only when you come near me, not by relaxing in the garden somewhere outside. So you must go to that place; you must visit Brindavan. The forest in which Radhaji and Her sakhis move about is preserved carefully; that is Brindavan. Literally, it means a congregation of forests. It has more forests and less buildings. "

" A renowned advocate's (Joopudi Yagyanarayana garu) wife came to Brindavan. I told her ' I will show you one forest. you will forget yourself when you enter. You will be under a spell as soon as you go there.' Even Lions and elephants stood still under the spell of Chaitanya's love. The animals involuntarily danced in ecstasy. Even our devotees swooned in ecstasy and danced last night. This power of rasa is the power of love. Jeeva Goswami realized and experienced this power of love. The Lord himself taught him such love secretly. "

'Being in the divine presence of great devotees, forgetting their body due to ecstasy of loving devotion towards Radhaji ..'

" He (Jeeva Goswami) preached three principles. Why do you practice such yoga by retreating into the forest ? When the river is flowing, you can quench your thirst by drinking the water from the river. Instead, why do you dig a well on the bank of the river? When will you finish digging and when will you get water? You may die in thirst in the mean time. Hence you must carefully understand what is necessary. "

" This afternoon a devotee (working as an officer in the bank) approached me with a typical problem. He was associated with Ramakrishna mission since childhood and also attained initiation. He had a practical doubt while doing spiritual sadhana and wanted to discuss with me. 'While doing dhyana, I am concentrating on my forehead. I am having severe pain and burning sensation. The skin turned black between my eye brows. I spoke to so many sages about my problem. Nobody in the mission could also give me a solution. I was told that you could help me. That is why, I came to see you.' Therefore, you must understand that the path of yoga is very difficult and dangerous. If the path is not correct, your eyes will be damaged permanently or your hearing will be impaired. Vivekananda cautioned everybody to steer away from yoga path. Many people became melancholic and insane. It is very stressful on the delicate nerves. Remember, when the river is there, don't dig a well! "

" Well, the three principles! The divine power of love. God had eternal and infinite power of love. That power of love which originated as a small stream and became Chaitanya; who is weeping for Hari; even animals were mesmerized by this love! They build a dam around them self and the animals. The torrential flow of love will be withheld by the dam and animals dance in ecstasy. They also attain the sense of detachment! Normally it is very difficult to attain renunciation but with the divine power of love, it happens in just three minutes! Mother is not the worldly image with eyes and ears; She is the power filled with bhava! She possesses the power of mantra. By following mantra, the power is evoked, because there is no difference between the mantra and its power; Both are the same. It is not so in this world. Ramakrishna Parmahamsa said that by uttering 'water water', your thirst is not quenched; you must go and fetch the water, drink it and satisfy your thirst. This is the fundamental principle between spiritual and worldly planes. We also must attain the power of love. When we address that power by Her name, Mother will certainly come because Name and Mother are one and same! I can cite any number of examples to prove that Mother came in this way. "

" Jeeva Goswami told us to worship and do dhyana on Mother's Hladini power, the power of ecstasy , the power of love! I will teach you how to do dhyana on Her. "

Nanna was commenting on the verse written by Jeeva Goswami explaining the highest place of Sri Radha.

Anaradhya Radha padambhojarenum
Anansritya Brindavanam tatpadankam
Asambhashya tadbhava gambheera chintan
Kutaha shyamasindho rasasyavagaha!
----

How can one understand the rasa in Shyam without worshipping the holy feet of Sri Radha; without living in Brindavan where She moves and without conversing with rasika mahatmas who are immersed in Radha Bhava.

" Mother and Her power of love are moving in Brindavan. Radha and Krishna promised that they would not step out of Brindavan. They are very much present in Brindavan even today! No wonder, almost 5000 temples exist here. You also must stay in Brindavan where Mother and Krishna are moving. They will glance at you. When you come to my house, it is my duty to find out how I can serve you. Brindavan is Mother's home. Dhruva, as a young lad asked where he must do penance so that the power of love would show him the right path to move forward. The 5 year old boy was a prince. The king married once again and treated the queen very badly. They were forced to live in a hut along with the servants, eat and dress like them. The queen was treated like a maid. Unable to see his mother's distress, Dhruva wanted to do penance and redeem his mother from disgrace. His mother told him to go to North India to do penance in the most sacred forest. He met Narada on the way. ' Dhruva, penance is not so easy!' 'No matter how difficult , I will do penance even if I must give up my life. I cannot see my mother's plight. If you try to stop me, I will not even speak to you. I don't even know you!' ' I am sage Narada. I am pleased by your determination' "

" 'My mother told me that you will guide me where to do penance. She cautioned me not to go here and there. Please tell me where I must go' ' My son, I will take you to Madhuvan and make you do penance' "

" Madhuvan is the first among the 32 forests in Brindavan. Dhruva did penance in this forest. Devotees visit this forest even today. A temple has been constructed for the devotees who visit the forest. Within 6 months of penance, Dhruva's mind transformed. Radha and Krishna move in this forest! They saw him weeping. The Lord met him, listened to his problem and assured to him near them within 6 months of penance. That's what really happened! "

" Brindavan was a sacred pilgrimage ages and ages ago! Where ever Mother moves, where ever Her love flows; you must go there; sit there; She will glance at you and you will be blessed! Chant Mother's divine name and do dhyana. Our dhyana is not merely repetition of Her name; we must meditate on Her power of love! When you do such dhyana, Mother will be yours! She does not surrender to anything except dhyana. "

" The Bhagawad Gita mentions that Arjuna asked Krishna the path to reach the highest abode of God. He replied ' Dhyanena athmani pasyanthi'. 'Arjuna, you are my disciple and my dear one! There is no other way except through dhyana. That is the only direct contact. The shortest method to approach the Higher supreme is only Dhyana!' ' Everybody says that the path of gyana is very important. Is dhyana higher than gyana? 'Gyanath dhyanam visishyathe' gyana is minor; dhyana is higher. Takeup dhyana, meditation, Higher meditation! You will find good results. "

" We are following such dhyana here. We must worship Krishna's rasa power through dhyana. Just as you approach the concerned government department for a particular subject; you must do dhyana on Mother's holy feet. She can be easily attained by dhyana. Brindavan is one of the pilgrimages which Mother is fond of. You must spend some time in Brindavan dham. You need not do anything. Just sit silently. She will see you sometime certainly. She is so benevolent. "

" The two paths to reach Mother are dhyana and residing in Brindavan. The third is by seeking the shelter of a sakhi. Only a sakhi can tell us about Mother, Her qualities, Her likes, how can we please Her, how we must move with Her. sakhi always weeps with Mother's love. We must be in the shelter of such a sakhi. sakhi is one whose heart and life are meant only for Mother; one who lives a life of surrender to Her. sakhi must live only for Mother. One who lives for Mother will not live in luxury and claim that he is a sakhi who lives for Mother. "

" The police and military officials are identified by their uniforms. A sakhi has no uniform. They cannot be identified so easily. That is the mystery! They have no special apparel, ostentatatious appearance, crown, pomp and show. They are very simple. They fold their hands to greet you. Such is their simplicity and humility. Chaitanya used to nibble a blade of grass to indicate that he is inferior than grass. How great is Chaitanya and how inferior his action is! Humility is sakhi's original beauty. One who is humble only can have sakhi's quality. One who tries to show off is putting on an act! "

" Sakhis are very simple and do not desire anything. Today's guru says 'I will chant mantra in your ear; how much money will you place in my hand?' A sakhi has no desire for money. He will not take any money from any devotee! This is the quality which differentiates him from other gurus. Strange! He has no fanfare, now show and no attitude! That is why, it is very difficult to identify a sakhi. I moved in Brindavan and experienced this. I saw a sakhi near Radhakund. He acquired land and built a small hermitage on the banks of Radhakund to do penance. He is an aged person with full independence. He has two great qualities. First, he will not speak for more than two minutes with anybody. When I met him, he spoke to me succinctly for two minutes and asked us to leave. He lives a simple life. He is so wealthy that the interest on his bank savings would be around Rs. 40,000 per month. Yet he does not touch a paisa! He wears a loin cloth even when he meets somebody. He speaks to the point and leaves immediately. Sakhis are very brief. They give us warning through their life! They do not reveal their secret! They never flaunt who they are! "

" A devotee wrote a poem on Chaitanya praising him that he is granting fortune of chanting God's name to millions of people. Roopa Goswami and Sanatana Goswami knew that the paper would not reach them once the devotee approached Chaitanya. So they copied down the verse and sent the devotee inside. As soon as Chaitanya read the verse, he became upset and tore the paper ' How can you call me a devotee' you are a cheat and a liar. I am not a devotee. If I was, how can I live (without the Lord) ? A true devotee cannot live for long time away from God. The agony of separation from God is so unbearable. How can a husband bear the sorrow of death of his beloved wife? Could Lord Shiva bear the grief of separation from his consort? Chaitanya argued in the same way. ' One who surrenders his life to Hari cannot live without him. Since I am alive, I am not a true devotee. I am 36 years old. It is not possible for a devotee to endure the separation from his Lord for so long. Therefore, I do not consider myself as a devotee. Such is the humility of sakhi. They do not reveal their identity to anybody. A wealthy lady will not talk about the gold which is stored in her locker. She will expose only trivial items which do not matter even if they are stolen. Our love and affection for Mother is like the gold. It is our secret. The fact is that a devotee is constantly weeping for God .. but even his neighbor is not aware of this. They do not waste their time. Every minute is precious. The sakhi whom we met spent just two minutes with us and left. There is nothing ostentatious around him. He is scantily clad and appears mad, unconnected with this world. He has no link with anybody; only penance. He eats whatever his disciples serve him and spends all his time only in penance. All mahatmas live like that! "

" Hence Mother's dhyana is of utmost importance. Try to spend time in Brindavan dham where Mother resides. That is why sage Narada guided Dhruvadasji toward Brindavan. Each holy place has specific powers. Oxford university is reputed for Arts while Cambridge university is renowned for sciences. You must select your subject according to the university. In the same way, you must carefully conduct your life to please Mother! "

" The third point is association with devotees. Try to meet and spend time with those who know a little about Mother; who can tell you the secrets about Her and how we must please Her. Do not spend time with worldly friends. Associate with Her intimate sakhis and listen to their talks. Spend time in Brindavan and do penance there. You must constantly contemplate on Mother and do penance. Mother is Hladini Sakthi - Hladini power is infinite bliss. When you contemplate on Mother for 6 months, you will experience infinite bliss and love flowing from within you. When you reach this stage, you cannot control yourself. It is quite natural that you will move in the direction which gives you happiness. One who is interested in fights is drawn towards a movie which depicts quarrels and blood-shed. Beware of fights! You must avoid all the three base gunas - Rajo, tamo and sattwa gunas. We want only humility. A sakhi surrenders his life to Mother. He lives only for Her happiness. He is weeping to please Her all his life. He is not interested in external paraphernalia. "

" I welcome all of you to our ashram in Brindavan. You can spend a week in dhyana there. We will take care of you. We will arrange your meals and coffee too! "

Every word of Nanna's talk is overflowing with his love for human beings. Our Nanna, the Radhasakhi came down on earth only to uplift us explaining the importance of Brindavan and Radhaji's benevolence. Nanna said ' Do dhyana in Brindavan. I will arrange food and coffee for you' Nanna is providing divine nourishment not only to our body but also mind and soul. His love is indeed limitless! We can never repay such love. We are fortunate to have such a guru who is inviting us to Brindavan and promised to show us all the sacred places there. Nanna is the sakhi who surrendered his life and heart to Mother. He led a simple and humble life. His life mirrors how a sakhi would be! His life proved that humility is sakhi's natural beauty.

Nanna wishes that his loving call to all of us to visit Brindavan so that Mother would glance at us and we become blessed.

" I must do only what pleases Mother. I must live only for Her pleasure. I must do whatever gives Her happiness. When Mother desired that Barsana gehar van must be shown to a devotee, I took her there. I told her that the whole forest would be in an ecstatic spell. Within 5 minutes of reaching there, she began to dance, singing Krishna, Krishna .. A 50 year old lady; an advocate's wife who never stepped out of her house alone danced in ecstasy. She did not want to leave Brindavan. We sent her back home with great difficulty. This is the ecstatic spell, the divine spell in this divine pilgrimage. There are 5000 temples in Brindavan! Innumerable devotees from America and Germany either visit or reside in Brindavan. This is the proof of divinity! We don't need anybody else to tell us about Brindavan. "

" We shall leave for Brindavan in a couple of days. Tomorrow I shall tell you about Mother's leelas and how She attracts Her devotees. "

" Radhe Radhe Jai Jai Sri Radhe. "
